Posted - Jul 28 2011 : 4:34:55 PM Oh man! I was just cleaning up my water bath canner, this was the first time I've used it this year, when I noticed a dent in the bottom and when I tried to push it out, some of the porcelain on the inside on the bottom came off! Does anyone know if this will present a problem if it starts to rust? WAAAA!!

Posted - Jul 30 2011 : 7:16:47 PM LOL, I have several old pots that I use for planters in my yard, soooo, yes it is a good retirement for your canner in the future...

Posted - Jul 30 2011 : 4:00:38 PM It should last for a while. I am still working with one that has a bit of rust from a few years ago... But I love the idea of a planter when it finally gets done making a hole!

Posted - Jul 29 2011 : 07:47:25 AM Candy, it will rust and eventually will rust through and send water all over your stove as a leak! But for now, I see no problem using it. It won't make any difference in the water boiling. Just be saving up for a new one for next year! :-)

Posted - Jul 29 2011 : 07:43:25 AM I'm not sure if this will help but what if a bit of rust paint used for metal would stop a possible rust problem. Rust paint is used on cars that become hot but I don't know if the paint itself is okay for pots. If I was putting food in it that would touch I wouldn't do it but with jars it might be okay. Not sure what do you think?
Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do! |

Posted - Jul 28 2011 : 5:28:45 PM rust it will and will sometime in the future become a hole, as far as causing future problems, I would think so, maybe with not heating evenly, and causing jars to crack...I think I would test with something you have lots of, and won't make you cry if its ruined...
