So, how many farmgirls still pack their lunches for their significant others? I pack a lunch for my husband, every day. The only thing he ever wants is a sandwich, chips, and some other assorted baked good. (Usually cookies)

Every once in awhile I'll give him a thermos with hot water and hot dogs in it with buns, or soup in a thermos, but, during the summer he's not really into hot food for lunch.

So, beyond sneaking in a note wishing him a good day, what do you all do to make your significant others lunches "special"?

(I can't wait to be able to pack a lunch for my DD! I'm so excited to do cute stuff like bento boxes...www.anotherlunch.com)

I don't wake up early enough to pack my husbands lunches, but I do give him some ideas. Usually it's left overs from the night before along with a piece of fruit or two. He also likes some of the healthier microwaveable meals like Annie Chun's and another brand that I can't remember.

Left overs are great and make great sandwiches
meatloaf sandwich (italian bread sliced thick) with sliced onion, tomato and greens w/mustard
Potroast on a roll with peppers and cheese
chicken wrap 1: mayo, crunchy grapes, celery and almonds 2: avacado, greens, onions and peppers 3: tomatoes, greens, chipotle mayo (peppers come in a can/ add to mayo puree in blender)
Bacon on sourdough: sliced hard boiled eggs, greens, tomato slices and mayo
Turkey wrap: cranberry suace (we buy ocean spray whole berry cranberry sauce) greens, walnuts or almonds
Pork on a roll: shreds of carrot, apple and cabbage tossed in a dijon mustard

I pack him leftovers most of the time. He is very happy to take them. we cook mostly healthy stuff and he often shares it with the men at work (who typically never have a lunch from home that is homemade).

My husband has a "Phobia" of leftovers. His mom never saved leftovers, and so he doesn't feel leftovers are any good. (Which means more for ME!) So, with leftovers out, and salads being not an option (Hubs won't eat JUST a salad. He says it doesn't fill him up), I'll try the jerky and fruit. I just put some watermelon in his lunch the other day, but he said he didn't eat it, that he was full from the other stuff in his lunch.

I think jerky is a good idea...I'm ready to toss in fruit snacks! lol. He's a manager at a local equipment dealer, so he doesnt get time to "sit down" for lunch.

I pack Hubby lunch everyday. Usually leftovers from dinner. But now with warmer weather he likes a fruit melody in his pail. I just cut up all different fruits and put them in small containers in the fridge. They are ready to go at a moments notice. This helps him keep hydrated and is a nice cool snack for him.

I also get up every morning and make him breakfast before work. Am I the last one left doing that for my hubby? The men at work seem to think so. LOL

I make a lunch every day too. It usually consists of left-overs, whatever he can heat easily. In fact, I tailor my dinner menus to lunches - meaning, if he's off the next day, I'll make something that is a one-meal thing or something that we don't reheat. He always takes some peanut butter crackers for a snack - usually a banana too. I pack little bags of nuts or dried fruit to give him something healthy to munch on. I used to pack a quart jar of iced tea, but he's started just drinking water at work. I try to include a note at random times - something to make him smile. It's nice to know I'm not the only one still packing lunches!

I do just like you, Liz - dinner, part deux. :)

In the summer, one of his favorite lunches is a container of salad made with fresh greens, red onion, cold sliced grilled raspberry chicken, sliced strawberries, toasted pecans, feta cheese and craisins on top (sometimes we'll add cucumber from the garden, too). I always include a little container of raspberry viniagrette, too! He LOVES it!

And we make our own pizza, so cold pizza is a favorite as well - or hoagies or a big homemade deli sandwich (I used to work at a deli when I was in college, and know how to make a mean sandwich!)

Snacks usually include homemade pudding in little Rubbermaid containers (A man needs his milk! LOL!), homemade granola cut up into bars (but they always fall apart), peanut butter crackers (homemade), sliced carrots and a piece of fruit (whatever is fresh from the garden or market).

We also have one of those really big beverage canteen/cooler things, so in the summer I make him homemade lemonade or iced tea. He also has freshly made coffee in a thermos to take with him in the morning. :)

The guys he works with always are amazed at the awesome food my DH brings in with him! :) I don't know whether he likes the bragging rights or the food more! LOL!

Can't wait for more farmgirl pack-a-lunch inspiration! Alee - those burritos sound AWESOME!!!

Hugs -

I just usually make enough dinner that I can put some in a container for him to bring to work. We only live about a mile from his work though and he has been coming home for lunch, so if I am home I get to make him lunch.

I am proud to say I have made my DH his lunch everyday for 24 years! Megan like your DH mine likes his sandwich, chips and pastry every day along with an apple and one miscelanious item. I try and change up his sandwiches every so often, or make a wrap. As for the one misc item that is where I add the variety. Sometimes it is carrots and peanutbutter other times it will be and extra pastry.

For changing up his sanwiches try making a crab (we use imitation) salad sandwich and put it on a bagle (we call these crabby patties) or making a bacon, egg, and cheese and putting it on an english muffin (brekfast style). Wraps are great because you can put almost anythng in them, the sky is the limit.

The misc item is the suprise item. My DH has access to a microwave, but usually doesn't use it. If I have leftover soup I will ask him in the morning if he would like soup and that gives him pre-warning that he will need to use the microwave if he says yes to soup. Other items I have thrown in are granola, string cheese, yogurt, fresh fruit (in season) jerky, dried fruit, and like I said sometimes and extra sweet something. It feels like sometimes I am just doing the same things over and over, but he is just fine with the way it works out and that is what matters.

Oh Megan! You have got to order the Bare Burrito and send him with some homemade burritos! Or if he likes spicy food sometimes Doug likes to take the MJF Jambalaya with frozen pre-cooked shrimp (no tails!). He just pops the shrimp into the mix with the hot water and in a few minutes both are cooked and hot. It works great!

Another awesome thing that all 3 of use (including Nora) is taking a dish of the Chili-Mac to work. You can dress that one up with some browned hamburger or grilled chicken.

One last idea- have you tried bake overs yet? They are awesome and work fantastic as left overs!
