Same neighbor who planted 30 hills of squash has also planted 2 huge rows of cucumbers. At one time (before we limited our sugar intake) I made fabulous bread'n'butter pickles every summer - like 65 quarts (yes, it's that many cucumbers.) However, we don't need that much sugar. I've gotten my husband addicted to Claussen Dill Pickles - you know, the expensive ones in the refrigerated jar? We LOVE them. I know I won't find THAT recipe, but I need a good dill pickle recipe. I tried making dills before and they tasted great, but were mushy. I bought a bag mix - tasted great, but were mushy. I want them to be crispy. No matter how I tried - ice packed, whatever, they turned out mushy. I'm not an expert canner, but I do know what I'm doing. However, either I'm doing something wrong or my recipes just aren't up to par. So. Does anyone have a great no-fail dill pickle recipe that makes CRISPY pickles? You are welcome to post or e-mail me off post. The cukes are coming off pretty good now and I imagine I'll have enough for a batch or two of pickles this weekend. Help?
