I picked up an issue of Mother Earth News and glanced thru an article stating just how unhealthy over the counter bread is. (I was shocked as we do get whole wheat bread & thought it healthy) Looking to see what you girls think would be a good bread maker machine. Oven is on the fritz,so I'm looking at this as a healthier alternative.

I have an Ultimate Breadman. Really like it. I don't usually bake in it though. I just use it to make my dough. It has lots of settings though for all kinds of breads/doughs/crust darkness etc... I don't mind baking in it, I just think my bread dries out faster when baked in it. Don't know why.

Good luck and happy baking.

I found mine at a thrift store. I'd rather have a "Z", but can't afford it right now. The ONLY thing I don't like about my bread machine is the way the loaf is oriented. But it's nice to throw everything in and have it done! I don't always have time to babysit bread.

Do what you love, love what you do.

I found mine at Kohls on super clearance for 20 dollars, marked down from $149. I think it is an Oster, and I really love it. It has different dough, crust, and size settings, plus the timer function is something I didn;t think I would use, but really love. Nothing better than waking up to the smell of bread cooking! This is my favorite site for recipes:

Sherrie,

Because I am a thrift store nut, I would highly suggest you stop off at a Goodwill/thrift shop and find a breadmaker there. Almost everytime I go, there is another breadmaker there since almost no one uses the things. I bought my friend one for a whopping 5 dollars, and my other friend nabbed one for 6 dollars. Most of the time, you can find the manual somewhere online for free, but sometimes they may cost about 10 dollars. Still....not a bad price! If you do find one at the thrift shop, make sure that it has the 'paddle' and ask to plug it in to make sure the paddle turns freely and the digital readout is working. Also, I would recommend asking friends/family if they have one they'd like to part with. I got mine for free from a friend just by asking on Facebook if anyone had one they would like to sell. It is not a top of the line model or anything like that, but the bread it bakes and dough it makes is delicious.

I also looked at the 'Z-name' maker, but I don't have that kind of money to invest in one...besides, I love the fact I 'rescued' a maker, lol.

You can just use the machine for the dough cycle and put it in your own pans to make more 'normal' sized loaves if you wish. It also makes wonderful pizza dough, too.

Good luck! I would HATE to part with my breadmaker :0)

I also have a Zojirushi machine. Mine is an older model I bought at the Thrift Store for $7.00.If I were to purchase one brand new it would be the same brand. I would love to share some recipes with you too for whole wheat bread Sherrie :)

I have two friends who have the Zojirushi machine and they absolutely love it. You can find it at http://www.zojirushibreadmachine.com/ They like it because it makes a real loaf of bread and you just throw everything in and voila - bread. I make mine the old fashioned way but their machines sound great!!
