I do love my kitchen compost bucket. It looks good on the counter, holds a ton of stuff, doesn't smell and is easy to empty and clean.

I like the filter for things like onion scraps. I'd rather not HAVE to empty it if it is not full. With the filter I can empty it when I plan to go out to the compost or worm bin and not on stinky demand! Some broccoli is really stinky too. What is that about?

i just use an old covered enamel bowl, dump it ever other day it doesn't smell. do you need a compost jar with a charcoal filter in order for it to do whatever it needs to do?

I use a pick pickle jar, it's about a gallon size jar, taller and thinner. I also make my own charcoal filter that I just press into the lid and replace now and then. Works wonderful and didn't cost a dime! If seeing the scraps bothers you, you could paint it I guess, which I haven't done yet.

Guess I'm the strange one. I use a True Value paint bucket! We do put a coffee filter on the bottom with a little water so that nothing sticks. It cost me about $3.00.

I use a stainless steel canister that I purchased at Walmart for less than $20. The lid seals really well so there are no odors. I've been really pleased with it.

What a fantastic idea! I'm going to make myself one of those little containers!
Thanks for sharing Brandee!

Great idea Brandee! I'm going to make one for when I forget and leave the other one out in the garden after dumping it into the compost. I do this fairly frequently when the garden is in. Can't resist stopping to check the veggies or pick off a few pests.

I'm guessing I should ditch my mixing bowl (compost bowl) and get one of these!! Much more attractive than a bowl overflowing with kitchen waste!!

Mine too. I bought a charcoal filter for an air purifier. It comes in a roll. I cut circles the right size out of it to contain the cost. I can get dozens out of one roll. Those refills are expensive for the compost pail.
