Posted - Apr 26 2011 : 05:22:38 AM Thanks to LakeOntarioFarmGirl (Brenda), and her discovery of putting vinegar in the dishwasher, I have been doing that ever since and am loving the results. That prompted me to "research" other uses for vinegar and have documented them at the blog. Hope you get a little chuckle. :-) And thanks, Brenda!!

Posted - Apr 30 2011 : 07:22:48 AM I might have to try this in the dishwasher. Sounds like a great money saver. My daughter hates pre washing by hand says it doesnt make any sense! |

Posted - Apr 29 2011 : 11:16:40 AM We just don't use detergent in the dishwasher, only vinegar (I use white just cause it's cheaper for this and works fine, I use ACV for our hair and salads etc). The detergent with our hard water, or maybe cheap dishwasher (it's new and came with the apartment but probably is a cheap one, I have never had one before moving here 6 months ago so I don't know) doesn't do well with any of the detergents leaves all the dishes crusted up! When I read about the vinegar I just stopped using the detergent (wasn't working any way I was having to re wash every thing any way!) and I've been pretty happy since. Plus the water gets hot enough it disinfects any way with out having to have detergent really.

Posted - Apr 29 2011 : 10:37:45 AM Yep the invoice is in the box.It was coming priority mail. I thought it would have come by now. Now I am a little worried that it hasn't come yet. Let me know when it does.
I will be sure to sift it when I get a sifter. I do have a small screen strainer that I guess would do in a pinch.

Posted - Apr 28 2011 : 7:36:11 PM Linda, No, I haven't received it yet. Is the invoice in the box? I am so excited!! I have your box almost ready to send - just waiting on the flaker.
Remember to sift the fire out of the soft white wheat flour in order for your scones, biscuits, etc to come out light. You want to take out as much of the wheat germ as you can. You can sprinkle it on top of the items if you want to retain the value of eating the germ, but it can make your stuff heavy if left in the flour.

Posted - Apr 28 2011 : 6:01:50 PM Oh I forget to tell you. I ordered the soft winter wheat from the Amish. Their store is about 45 minutes from me. They are charging me $36 dollars for 50 lbs. I can't wait to try it. I am so use to using the hard white. It should be here next Tuesday. I am going to try your scone recipe for the first try. I can hardly wait. Thanks so much for the info.

Posted - Apr 28 2011 : 5:59:22 PM Mary, there is no screen actually but it has a food digester. Its suppose to grind it up like a disposal.I rinse my dishes super good so its rare for much food to be in there. I have only had the dishwasher for about 3 months. I will try the vinegar with my next wash. I have both white and apple cider. Does it matter which one? I also read your blog. I have slow dialup but it was worth it. I really enjoy reading it. Its has been very helpful and inspiring! I sent you the soap and they charged me for the box and I thought the shipping was high. Then the lady tells me after it was all said and done that I couldn't have shipped it differently. I was a little upset that she waited until after the fact. I am not use to shipping soap so now I know. I am sorry for the shipping cost. If its too much I will just take less for the soap. I sent it Monday did you receive it yet?

Posted - Apr 28 2011 : 4:30:16 PM Linda, I pour it into the bottom of the dishwasher just before I start the first cycle. Works like a charm.
Elaine and Teresa, I am so thrilled that you read the blog and enjoy it. Sometimes you wonder, you know? I don't have a counter so I have no idea how many people go to it! Just so it helps somebody!!! :-)

Posted - Apr 28 2011 : 11:07:09 AM Linda- Check your manual to see if there is a screen you need to clean periodically. Some dishwashers do. I put vinegar in the rinse aid compartment. Connie

Posted - Apr 28 2011 : 11:01:40 AM Mary do you put the vinegar at the start of the wash or when its starts rinsing? It doesn't seem to matter what soap I use in my dishwasher and my glassware comes out looking dirtier then when it went in. I even have a new kitchenaid dishwasher and it still looks bad. I really rinse the dishes well before I put them in. I usually end up washing all the glasses by hand each time.

Posted - Apr 26 2011 : 10:04:06 AM I love the tips on your blog! You can also pour baking soda and white vinegar down the drain to help keep it clear of clogs. (And it helps keep it smelling clean)
