I am a professed non tea drinker. It reminds me of when I had the stomach flu as a kid & Mom would give me tea.
My nightime drink is beer, but I fear it is adding pounds to my gut.
So last night I tried some vanilla nut tea, & I thought that was yucky too. Smelled like perfume. I really want to alter my nighttime habit, but so far, my tea choices aren't convincing.
I don't like flowery, or typical tea taste. Anyone drink Yerba Mate tea?? What does that taste like?
Am I a lost cause?
Any advice is appreciated.

I know what you mean Lisa, I have found my eternal favorite, Salada makes a "decaf citrus green tea" it is THE BEST I have found, not the black tea flavor, not to herby...I think it's the citrus that makes it right...green tea can be bitter, and this one is not at all. If you send me your address I'll mail you a couple teabags to try first.

OK, So I have sampled some of the teas I was SO GENEROUSLY gifted!!! And I have come to the conclusion that so far, hot tea is not my bag! (no pun)
BUT... I love it cold.. I have been drinking close to 1/2 gallon a day of iced tea while driving (for my job) & in the evening while browsing MJF..
I put some of a sample of the teas sent to me, mixed with some stevia, all together in a half gallon canning jar. In the fridge overnight, & then I drink all day!Ohio temps are dropping, so once again, I am going to try some of these gorgeous teas hot.. I will keep you posted!
Thanks again to my tea buddies!!!!!

Celestial Seasons Vanilla Chammomile Tea has a nice flavor. Peppermint tea is very good especially while nibbling on a square of dark chocolate - think healthy peppermint patty. You can also buy herbs and make your own tea blends. I make a recipe with chammomile, lemon balm, roses and lavender. If you don't like tea you could also try hot ciders.

I drink English Breakfast every morning without fail, summer or winter. It's a good substitute for coffee (which I like a little bit of with all of my cream and sugar.) I add sugar and skim milk to tone it down a bit. I also enjoy fruity, but not flowery teas - so I understand where you're coming from. Oh - and they make it decaf for night-time drinkers if you need it. I buy Twinings at my local Wal-Mart - but read the red box - caf and decaf look the same except for the print.

Lisa,
Bigelow has some good vanilla ones. I like the vanilla caramel.
I just bought today Twinings African Roobios red tea, you might like that also.

I drink Celestial seasoning tummy mint every day. I use agave syrup for sweetner. I am not a fan of really strong flavored teas either. But there is a local tea shop that has pina colada and vanilla-cranberry. Those are both good in moderation. i like chamomile mixed in with mint teas.

My friend uses a couple of types of chai mixed together - one is vanilla chai with milk. That's my "comfort" tea when i am feeling down and blue.

I have really liked the flavor of the agave over regular sugar or honey. =)

Do what you love, love what you do.

Oh my gosh, Lisa you are just too funny!
Do you like to drink your tea dark or very light? I usually share my tea bag with my older daughter (when she's home) so it doesn't go to waste. (I like my tea very weak)
Sleepytime or spearmint types are nice for me in the evening. Or if you have a tea-ball, you can use some loose tea? I can share some of mine, if you want to...let me know.
Good luck! ---lisalisa ;o)

I am so excited with all of the responses, & Mary Beth is SO kindly sending me some samples..
Somwhere along the line, I think when I was figure skating in my early 20's (30 yrs ago. WOW), I remember drinking some Earl Grey., but I think I always chose the coffee over that.
Just for kicks & giggles, I did a search for beer tea, & found this. http://manteas.com/beer-tea
Not sure about that one...
Anyway, my taste buds have some new adventures on the horizon.

Jonni I also enjoy Earl Grey. Lisa may like Lady Grey, she is not as strong. Lisa tea is like beer - there are so many kinds. Don't give up just experiment with steeping times and flavors. The variety packs in the stores will give you many options. If you have a tea shop you can talk to the sales people to help you. Good luck on your journey, Barbara

Ok...so I'm going to out on a limb and say you'll DETEST my favorite, Earl Grey. He's rather perfumey....

I don't know this tea you speak of, Lisa, but I really don't like much tea other than strong, black teas that could replace coffee on any given day. So, English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast, Constant Comment, things of that sort.

In the summer, though,I always have a large pitcher of Raspberry Zinger in the fridge, sweetened with honey. I make one up a lot, anyway, as that's what Violet has over juices.

Lisa, I like yerba mate, but not all of it is created equal, some is downright unhealthy. When I was drinking it a lot I bought from Aviva online. Yerba mate is one of those things that you like or you don't, it's flavor is pretty strong. Also, it does seem to be an energy booster, so you probably wouldn't want to drink it at night. Mostly I'm a coffee drinker though-I drink decaf at night. I like lemon ginger tea. If you buy a brand that doesn't have a base of black tea, it pretty much tastes like lemon and ginger and not too floral.

Mary Beth, that is so sweet!
Sending you an email now!
I seem to remember another farmgirl here raving about your teas

I really like the chai flavors (except red tea) that Stash has. I like their Jasmine flavor and also the Green and White Tea Fusion. Sometimes I forget that I have tea steeping and that last one never seems too bitter to me. Marjean sent me a lavender Stash tea that must only be available online as I've never seen it in the stores. It was nice, quite light. But then I love all things lavender. Not the gum, though. That was wierd.

Lisa, if you will email me with your address, I will send you some samples of some of the teas that I carry that you might like. Many are light flavors. Laurie is right. You only steep them for 3-4 minutes for loose tea and less for bagged teas. I also like to add cream to my tea with a little stevia. The teas that I carry can be drunk either hot or cold.

You are not a lost cause. I find some of the flavored teas unbearable and I like tea! My nighttime drink is usually chamomile or vanilla chamomile. The trick is to not steep it too long if you don't like lots of flowers. Do you like mint? Another nice herbal is Celstial Seasoning Mandarin Orange. One of my favorites with a dash of honey. A few other brands make an orange too, but I don't like those, so tea flavors can be very particular. Don't give up just keep trying and start with a shorter steep time. If it isn't too strong you can increase. You'll know when it gets too much.

I've had yerbe matte a few times. It was ok.

Good luck,
Laurie
