Hi! The last few loaves of bread and buns I've bought have gone moldy within two days. I'm still not used to the climate here in Ohio, and wonder if there is any way to make the bread last longer? I never had this problem in Arizona! The only thing I can think of is putting bread in the fridge, but I don't know if that is better or not. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I freeze my bread also and only take out what I am going to use. I also make crockpot bread pudding, so easy, and french toast with bread right from the freezer. It's not that I like it best this way but it beats throwing it away.

Rue Ann - when I was a little girl, my mother had bread in her bread box. Once a loaf turned moldy, she would end up tossing the bread box. She said that once you get mold spores inside of it, they are virtually impossible to remove. I don't know if that's still the case, but that's the first thing I thought of when reading your post. Maybe it has to do where you are keeping them? Star's right, though.. In the summer here, it's always very warm and moist and our breads go moldy within a day or two. We freeze it and then keep it thawed in the fridge in that kind of weather, and it does much better. Good luck! - Nini

There is only the two of us now at home, so I freeze the bread and remove only a half a loaf at a time to prevent it going bad. Sometimes it still does, so I feed it to the birds and animals.

I keep mine in my freezer till I need a loaf, only keeping one loaf out at a time. I also keep my thawed loaf in a bread box. That seems to help a lot, and has the added bonus of protecting the bread from the kitties who love to munch on it!

Make sure you aren't keeping anywhere in your kitchen that is warm or moist. I freeze my loaves of bread and only thaw what I will use in a day or two.
