All this talk......may have to fill the crock pot tonight :) I also use pure maple & a pinch of cinnamon....then sprinkle almonds or pecans just before eating :)

i have never been much of an oatmeal eater but when i bought 50 lbs of stone cut oats for my chickens, my neighbor girl gave me the recipe for them in the crockpot & I tried it...WOW...I love this stuff! I do a big batch (2 cups with 8 cups of water) I add 3 T honey & a huge handful of raisins or cranberries & put it on warm at night...by the morning I have this wonderful food that I eat but most of it goes to the chickens since its winter & I want them to have a warm meal. i try to make this every other day so i have something healthy to eat as do the hens. I got my husband to try it & he will even eat it.

Thanks so much for the great recipe. I am thinking I have some steel cut oats so I can make it for tomorrow morning, but if not, I am headed to town tomorrow and will get some!! :)

Great blog too, I can't wait to sit and look at it thoroughly!!

I am in the process of making some rolls with steel cut oats instead of rolled. I love steel cut oats, I think they taste so much fresher! Can't wait to see how my rolls turn out!

It's so easy and so good, to boot. If you use those crock pot liners (I don't), I would imagine it's totally painless. Still, it's not a big deal to wash one crock and do it all over tonight.

Tommie, it was certainly a delight to wake up to this morning, knowing I didn't have to "think" about breakfast, that it was already done and that's it's good and warm, and good for me, too!

I used 3/4 cups steel cut oats to 4 cups water; cook on low for 6-7 hours. I put them on at 11:15 or so. Could also change it up to add milk, I guess.

This sounds delish! I have a few more things to add to my shopping list now. :)

Yum!

Real maple syrup is soooo good on oats. I love it. And I'm no fan of "maple" flavoring. Something about it, though, with the oats is just perfect. I put in craisins, and nuts, often, as well.

Awoke to a warm and filling breakfast before my long, snowy commute.

A little butter, real maple and brown sugar and YUMMO. Some still left for the husband and the girl :)

Maple Syrup sounds yummy on it too! Never thought of that. Thanks. I enjoyed the last of our batch we made. With 4 inches of snow expected I am having my son bring home more oats from work.

Also, kudos to you for getting back into the gym!
I work out too. I slacked off a bit last fall but I have made a New Year's resolution to exercise at least four times per week.
So far, so good...

Thanks, again, for that wonderful-sounding recipe,

Thanks. We love the recipe and it's so healthy for our family. We get apples from a local orchard or buy organic to make it. Thanks to my mother, I have orchard apples this week.

Also, thanks for the comments about my blog. I originally started it to keep myself on target with my writing, and soon it turned into our life and making it through the recession with self-sufficiency skills. We love the new lifestyle, as I have always been fascinated with pioneer living.
