Posted - Nov 22 2010 : 10:36:18 PM Hello there!
I found this in the thrift store a while ago, and just found another today!
Does anyone know what this is? The top flips over and holds the lid in place. It is stoneware, and glazed in the inside.
Greetings, Heike

Posted - Nov 24 2010 : 11:55:25 PM How fabulous! I am experimenting with making cream cheese right now, it will be perfect to store it in :). So many possibilities. I can keep my eyes open if I find any more if anyone wants one. I paid under $1 for each of mine ;)...and am constantly on the hunt.
Thanks!! Heike

Posted - Nov 24 2010 : 11:15:21 PM It used to be sold in the supermarket with a soft cheese spread, then you could buy a plastic tub as a refill, now the crocks aren't available anymore. I buy yeast in bulk and store it in a crock. |

Posted - Nov 23 2010 : 07:44:16 AM I think it may have come with a soft cheese spread in it, but don't really know. It's pretty though isn't it? |

Posted - Nov 23 2010 : 07:39:27 AM Fabulous! I thought it might be a butter crock :). I want to start making soft cheese, so this may become the vessel. I like the idea of keeping sourdough starter in it too, that way it does not get smelly. It seems pretty airtight (at least one of them!), so I will have to try if it lets in enough air.
My great-Oma used to put milk in little stone crocks in the window to curdle, I might try that too. Thanks all!!!

Posted - Nov 23 2010 : 07:25:32 AM Great news!! I knew I had two of these crocks, but didn't know where the other was. I just found it and it has a lid! Just need to find a new gasket for it!
Thank you so much for starting this thread!

Posted - Nov 23 2010 : 06:11:05 AM I have several of these because I picked them up to keep sourdough starter in! All of mine had been used for a soft sharp cheddar cheese product.

Posted - Nov 23 2010 : 05:58:23 AM Have one too!! Sadly the gasket was worn out and DH knocked the I'd on the floor where it shattered. Had I know it was for butter it would have been in use!!
I love the color of yours!
