The top flips over and holds the lid in place. It is stoneware, and glazed in the inside. AmethystRose	Posted - Nov 24 2010 : 11:15:21 PM It used to be sold in the supermarket with a soft cheese spread, then you could buy a plastic tub as a refill, now the crocks aren't available anymore. I buy yeast in bulk and store it in a crock.

GoddessintheGroove	Posted - Nov 23 2010 : 07:39:27 AM Fabulous! I thought it might be a butter crock :). I want to start making soft cheese, so this may become the vessel. I like the idea of keeping sourdough starter in it too, that way it does not get smelly. It seems pretty airtight (at least one of them!), so I will have to try if it lets in enough air. My great-Oma used to put milk in little stone crocks in the window to curdle, I might try that too. Thanks all!!!
