I just got home from doing a show at a local store that carries my pastry cloths and gift baskets. It was a long day and kind of painful, since I tripped last night and hit my head on a chair (knocked me out) and stoved my neck something awful!!! But I met so many nice people and demonstrated my product with as much humor as possible. I learned something interesting:
Most women 50 years old and up, who bring their husbands with them, get talked into a purchase by the husband because either he is hoping it will inspire her for fresh breads and such OR he is planning on baking them himself (had quite a few of those).
Most women 40 years old and up, who come with girlfriends, proudly proclaim to everyone that they don't ever see the inside of stove and don't plan to.
Most women ages 18 to 39 are really interested in cooking and especially baking and are eager to sign up for a class and usually purchase my product. They also indicate a great interest in canning.
I'm thinking that what I learned today about the younger generation gives me great hope for our future. And what I learned about my generation? No wonder they say that older people eat dog food! It just requires a can opener!! :-)

Thanks Linda. In the words of a dear older man from OK who was interviewed on the Today Show after the May 3, 1999 tornado (over F5) that sucked him out of his house and dumped him into a pond, "Waaallll. I'm a hurtin' a right smart." :-) I feel like my spine has been compressed a few inches! I do have a headache but that's the extent of it. I figure that'll go away by tomorrow. I can't imagine hittlng my mouth. OUCH. I'd have cried for sure.
Yep, my parents (Dad is 82) still cook most of their meals at home and they are very creative. My dad is an amazing cook and his oriental food is to die for. He still cans his own salsa and even makes jelly. I guess they are in the minority! :-)

I love it Mary Beth. I have to remember that one. I just do a mental "tsk-tsk-tsk" when I see older people in line at the store, male or female, filling their carts with frozen, um, dog food. Even my mom, at 71 and living alone, cooks for herself a couple times a week, making enough for a few days and eats out with friends the rest of the time. I am so sorry for you about that accident. Are you alright since then? I mean, you knocked yourself out?! Once, I and my daughter were traveleing and staying in a hotel. There was no night light and after visiting the bathroom I tripped over a chair and hit my mouth on the arm of said chair. Lucky I didnt knock a tooth out. Huge pain. But I can relate a little to your accident. Hugs, a little later, from a farmgirl sister.
