Hey girls - When I lived back in New England, every fall we would purchase yellow mustard pickles from a local orchard. I also had purchased some once at Old Sturbridge Village. They were an staple in our autumn and winter cupboard, and I really miss them!!! I can't find anything remotely similar here in Western PA. Does anyone have a recipe for them they would like to share? Or do you know where I may be able to purchase them online? I'd really, really appreciate your help! Thanks - Nini

Thank you, Diane! I've never heard of mustard bean pickles, but I'm definitely willing to try it - it looks yummy!!!! I probably will try it with the beans AND the cucumbers, too! Do you know what kind of vinegar to use? Thank you SO much for sharing!!! I really appreciate it! Hugs - Nini

Nini, do you mean mustard bean pickles? This is an old family recipe and works very well. I would think you could probably substitute other vegetables as well if they weren't too big.

2 qts. yellow beans
2 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup flour
2 tbsp tumeric
3 tbsp celery seed
1/2 cup mustard
1 quart vinegar

Cook beans until tender. Drain. Make a dressing of remaining ingredients and cook until thick, stirring constantly. Add beans and cook five minutes more. Pour into sterilized jars and seal.
