Posted - May 28 2006 : 07:07:42 AM i would like to make some HERMIT COOKIES using the *Farmgirl Budget mix*..
i am NOT a baker, and i would like to make some chewie hermit cookies and have some questions...
i have a regular recipe for HONEY HERMITS which i got from the Internet;.
here it is.
1/3 cup butter 1/2 cup milk 2 eggs, beaten 1/2 tsp cloves 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 1/3 cup honey 1 cup raisins 1/2 tsp salt 4 tblsp baking powder 3 1/2 cups flour
cream shortening and honey, add eggs, add milk, salt and raisins.mix well.sift and mix dry ingredients together then mix into liquid ones, ,drop by spoonsful onto greased pan.bake in moderate oven until brown.
my questions: #1. how can i do this recipe using one package of *budget farmgirl mix.*
#2. can i use buttermilk powder and water..will this make a more tender hermit.?
#3. how would i adjust with baking soda.? i thought that if you used honey , you needed to use 3/4 tsp baking soda per cup.?
#4. could i roll this whole mixed bunch of ingredients into a roll and freeze and cut like you would frozen sugar cookies? or is the farmgirl mix made to be used immediately so that it will rise well?
#5. i may use a mix of honey and molasses. will this change anything.
So i need you professional bakers out there to come up with a recipe for me,(and hopefully we can share it with the entire community.,) for tender, chewy hermit cookies made with the famous *budget farmgirl flour mix"...
hope you can help
thank you so much' most sincerely alice |

Thanks! Carol

Posted - May 30 2006 : 6:01:36 PM oh, Libbie.. tell me how they turn out..
i would like to be able to make them with the budget farmgirl mix..
i am such a 'fraidy cat' baker.... i have made so many disasters in my baking life.. that i do not try a new recipe unless i think it will be really good and foolproof..!!
this one sounds really good.
i like the name... i have no idea why they are called that.. i do wonder.. oh well..
take care.. and, if you do feel so inclined, let me know how your hermies turn out.!!! PS if you can figure out how to make them using the budget farmgirl mix, you will get 12 gold stars.
and maybe we can submit it somewhere for EVERYONE to enjoy... as i think people really may
best wishes to you alice |

Posted - May 30 2006 : 5:57:06 PM Alice - this recipe does sound yummy! I do have a question - why are they called "hermits?" I've never heard of them, but all of the spices sound SO good together! I wrote down the recipe and can't wait to try it on the next "cookie day." Thanks!
XOXO, Libbie
