to even come close in comparison to that first big ripe juicy red tomato right off the vine!! I think we just live for that first one. It is so good! Ya just can't get anything like this from a store. Nope. Nothing. This is the best thing about gardening in my opinion. And the best thing about summertime too. It's so fun to finally go out to the garden after months of anticipation and there it is! Bright shiny red tomato just looking at you! Oh man, what a sight to behold. And worth every bit of sweat and labor to get it too! Hubby was home this weekend and he found some. It was so funny to hear that man hoot and holler over a tomato! Just pure joy!

And then my very favorite thing to do with that big ole juicy tomato is put slice it up, put it on some nice fresh sour dough bread just a little bit toasted, slathered with home made mayo and some good think cut bacon!! Talk about the best sandwich ever! And ya better have plenty of napkins too. Because it is messy. I could have one of these every single day and still not get enough.

Enjoy all those wonderful beautiful tomaotes!

I just went out and picked a basket full. I did see several pecked on so the chickens must have found them. Also saw a big brown worm on the top of one. It's no longer with us. So I am going to haev to take some drastic measures from now on to protect the tomato crop from marauding chickens. I just might have to catch them all tonight while they are roosting and put them in the goat barn til tomato season is over. I hate to do that but I gotta have some tomatoes!

My tomatoes are still green, I think I have at least 2 weeks before I will see any red ones..Then I will bite right into the first one, make a tomatoe sandwich with the second one and give a nice red one to gramma Love. I know she's waiting for one or more.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

Hey Gena. You're back!! I hope you had the best time. And I hope you didn't get too sunburned. I had a neighbor's cows get into my garden once and ate all my corn. He had those huge commercial chicken houses and gave us a huge box of chicken. I would much rather have had the corn.

Here's wishing everyone an abundance of those big ripe juicy beautiful tomatoes real soon! I have to get some more sourdough. I am also going to get more organic flour and get a starter going. The bread I am buying is $5.00. Way too expensive but oh so good.

Kris, I would have had a few red ones, but I guess I planted them to close to the fence. Our cow, Betty, she ate the tops off them! Maybe we will still get some around the bottom. My hubby's dad raises enough for the whole county. I should be getting some of his soon.

Kris,

Lucky you! We have one orange one in the midst of a bunch of very green ones. You got me hankering for a tomato sandwich, too!

Well, I hope every one of ya'll have some nice red ripe juicy tomatoes real soon. There is just nothing like them, for sure. I just had some cut up with cucmbers with homemade ranch dressing poured all over them. Yumm! That just hit the spot.

I'll have to try some basil on the next sandwich I make. I am out of sourdough right now.

I have a few little bitty green ones but most are still blossoms yet. I agree with your description, though. I hardly buy them from the store-not even the same creature!
I like tomato and onion and mayo sandwiches, too. Can't wait!

We've been eating our little grape tomatoes. They're so sweet! We have 2 of the dogs that sneak in there every chance they get looking for them, too. I bought some reg tomatoes today from the Amish and some cucumbers and I'm making some pasta salad inspired from some I bought at a farmer's market in the Blue Ridge mountains. I couldn't find the same pasta, but it will be similar. My peaches I bought there were delicious and are now put up. Fresh food is so good!

Man...I don't think my tomatoes are ever going to get red. I go out every day and examine every single one. I hope they're not like watched pots LOL! I can't wait!
