Here is our homemade taco seasoning recipe...

For 2 pounds of meat;

2 tsp salt
2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp crushed red pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp oregano

I usually leave the salt out, though, because most of the time, I season my meat with Tony Chacheres or something first.

This is kind of funny that I found this thread, looking for something else, but was talking to a friend of mine last night and she said "I just buy the big shaker of taco seasoning because we use so much", and I thought I'll bet there's a recipe out there for it!!! Thanks so much girls, I'll be a makin' it in a few minutes!!

Thanks for the recipe--great to mix up in bulk and keep on hand! I hate buying those little packets knowing that they're 99% salt and 1% stuff I already have on hand.

Thanks again for sharing, I've tried it as tacos and in chili works great in both!

It would be great if you could stop in, Delicia! I'm not sure how far Richmond is from us, exactly...

I almost always use less red pepper, as half of my family doesn't care much for spicy foods. We keep it on the table with the salt and pepper and those of uswho want it add it ourselves. Easier to please everyone! So glad you liked it, though!

Kayla, this is so good! I made a taco mac kind of dish the other day and I love it. I will not put so much of the crushed red pepper next time though. It was a bit too spicy for me. But I added lots of cheese so that made it better. Thanks again.

I'm glad the recipe was a hit! We live in Columbia, quite a bit farther south. We're a little over 2 hours south of Lexington.

That sounds great - thanks for sharing it Kayla - I've been wanting to get away from the premade stuff but we eat tacos a lot and it is so handy. I will definitely make some up!!

Great! When I do it for kids (my little bros) I'll reduce the amount of crushed red pepper. There are some in my family that don't like hot stuff...

No problem, y'all! I don't usually even measure this anymore..just throw it all in. And I up the herbs, just cause...I like herbies. LOL On my blog, I think I said to use a tablespoon of the herbs and I probably use more chili powder in proportion, too. Probably no that much salt, though...I just like the extra punch of flavor!
