Posted - Apr 06 2010 : 08:06:56 AM I would love to make some dandelion jelly since they are all over right now. I know Aunt Jenny makes it and was wondering if she would be sharing the recipe. I don't know if it can be make like the violet jelly or not.
I am going to get more pectin while I am out today so I can get started.
Thanks, Kris

Posted - Aug 08 2010 : 10:10:14 PM Yay! I have alot more dandelions suddenly in my yard again (hopefully means this awfully hot weather is going to tame down some) so I will be making more batches hopefully this week!

Posted - Jun 17 2010 : 11:00:02 AM LOL - yeah, I've got some dandelion syrup, myself. The current issue of Hobby Farm Home (July/August 2010) has a recipe for Cranberry Walnut Salad with Runny-jelly Dressing. Cracked me up when I saw that.

Posted - Jun 16 2010 : 1:56:08 PM They don't bloom for long at all here..I have been trying to make as much jelly this week as I can, sadly next week the blooms will likely be all gone. I plan to make syrup too. (purposely..which isn't how I usually make syrup..haha)

Posted - Jun 09 2010 : 5:02:31 PM just the same as the dandelion..only use the rose petals. I use the pink wild roses in my front yard...very fragrant and a pretty color as jelly.

Posted - Jun 09 2010 : 2:55:18 PM Jenny, I think I'm gonna have lots of dandelion syrup...but maybe it'll set more as it cools. I was thinking about rose petal jelly, too - got a recipe for that one? :-)

Posted - Jun 08 2010 : 8:15:43 PM I was sure I'd have enough dandelions in my yard to do this...went and picked them all and only got about 1 cup. So I called a friend I was sure wouldn't have sprayed her lawn with anything, and drove across town (it's a small town, fortunately) to pick dandelions! I realized I must be crazy as I passed yard after yard with dandelions all over, including some public areas, on the way to my friend's place. But it was nice to visit and my kids got to play with her grandkids. I'll be making dandelion jelly tomorrow! To spread on the bread I made today! Yum.

Posted - Jun 02 2010 : 9:03:12 PM I want so badly to make this jelly and I don't have a single dandelion in my grass! I've always liked them and never bothered to get rid of them in the grass, thought they were kinda pretty and now...nothing. Figures.

Posted - May 21 2010 : 08:12:56 AM After reading this post, my 7 yr old son and I went on the hunt for dandelions. Wasn't to hard to find them in the yard! Loved the jelly!!!! Wasn't real sure it was going to set up, but by the next morning it was perfect. Tastes like honey with a tiny bit of citrus flavor. It's just beautiful to look at too! Thank you for posting this! |

Posted - May 21 2010 : 07:52:24 AM I am so glad it worked so well for you too Cherian! I need to get another batch made today. It is my kid's favorite for sure and I promised to send my mom in Calif. some. We have an especially big "crop" of dandelions this year. Not much else yet..we have had a late spring...so it is nice!

Posted - May 20 2010 : 3:45:31 PM Thank you Aunt Jenny for sharing the recipe! I made this last weekend, and I am absolutely blown away at people's responses to it. My 12 year old son picked the dandelions for me, but wrinkled his nose and said "that doesn't sound good"but after he ate it he said "This is the best jelly ever, can you make more?" My Grandmother had the same response, I took one jar to her house and it was gone in 30 min. Everyone had to try it and loved it. I love to find a use for the "weeds" in my yard- we made dandelion pesto too, and have been eating the greens in our salads.

Posted - May 03 2010 : 7:14:38 PM I can hardly ever use them right that moment...but I do take the time to cut the petals off and freeze them in a zip bag until needed..works great and I notice no difference in taste at all.

Posted - May 03 2010 : 6:39:30 PM Jenny when you pick the dandelions do you need to use them that same day or can they sit a few days? Just curious as I could pick some and cut off petals and then wait until weekend to make the jam. Thanks Rae

Posted - Apr 30 2010 : 8:04:55 PM Personally I don't like the taste of re-cooked jelly. I would call it dandelion syrup and make a new batch. Sorry to tell you that. But..it may work..someone else may have better experience with re-processing that I have had. Don't give up debra!!

Posted - Apr 18 2010 : 11:24:07 AM Woot! My violet jelly turned out perfect, and my dandelion jelly is setting up WONDERFUL. IT turned out more orange than the first batch, but, that's fine with me! The first batch hardly set up at all.
