Hi Girls!

I have been thinking about buying a bread machine. I keep going back and forth about it. We love fresh, homemade bread, but I am a very busy work from home mom of 3 and don't always have the time during the day to make bread. We live far from a store, so buying it fresh is out of the question. So I would like to know what you all think. Is it worth it, anyone have one that they love? Any feedback would be a big help!

XOXO

Hi Charity,

oh I highly recommend buying one! it only take a couple of minutes to throw the ingredients together, and the machine does all the work! it is awesome, and the smell of baking bread!! that itself is a gift.

let me tell you, it you slice it thick right after it's done, add some butter and a little cinnamon sugar- oh my goodness you'll be in heaven!

I have one and I use it almost daily. We go through about 13 loaves of bread a month so buying organic bread was getting really expensive! I had a breadman that my parents gave me years ago and just bought a newer one off of craigslist for $35!
I'm am a stay at home mom but between my 4 kids, the house and our business, a breadmaker is just easier at this point! :)

I don't see that my bread machine is any more modern than a Kichenaid mixer. I do have one recipe for dinner rolles that I make by hand on very special occasions but only because the recipe is too big to put into the bread machine. I make all my own hamburger and hot dog buns, starting the dough in the machine and letting it rise once. I make all kinds of breads using herbs, spices and dried fruit. The majority of the flour is whole wheat. My machine is a Breadman Ultimate. In addition to the recipe book that came with the machine, I like The Breadman's Healthy Bread Book by George Burnett.

By all means, buy a bread machine. Expensive? yes, worth it? absolutely.

I wore out my bread machine, but DH won't buy anything not made in America and I haven't found a replacement. Do you know of any out there? I use my Kitchenade mixer to make bread and love that now that I'm retired and around home more.

I have had a bread machine for 2 or 3 years and love it. I also have been doing MaryJane's sour dough for the last year. But I only bake MJ sourdough on Sundays and when I want a loaf some other time of week, I use the machine. Totally different kind of bread, but I love them both. I am ready to experiment with some other (more labor intensive) bread methods, but I will always appreciate having the machine for when I really don't have the time or feel like getting more involved. I especially like to make a "french" loaf with rosemary and garlic and sometimes some sundried tomatoes.
If you have the $$ for one, get one and enjoy it! (We got ours for "free" with American Express points - even the shipping was free!)

I use my bread machine to mix, knead and do the first rise. I then take the dough out and shape it into a loaf, baguette, rolls, etc. I think it is definitely worth buying. I just can't get used to the shape of the bread when baked in the machine and the hole in the bottom from the kneading bar! LOL!

Just thought you might be interested in a bread book that I use for the bread machine. "Rustic European Breads from your Bread Machine" by Linda West Eckhardt and Diana Collingswood Butts. I have had it for years and refer to it for good european breads. If you like to prepare your dough in the machine and bake in the oven the recipes are fantastic. When baking in the oven I like to use a baking stone or a cloche. They recommend using organic flours and bottled water if your water is not pure. Very crusty and chewy bread. Hope you check this out!

I have had the same one for about 20 years. I have periods where I use it 3 times a week then I dont use it for a month. You have to test recipes to find ones you like, but I have always enjoyed my bread machine.

I agree, a bread machine is the perfect solution for those of us who do not have enough time to be the purest at heart. I love to bake homemade breads and the bread machine gives me the opportunity to have fresh bread. I used to make 3 loaves at a time during my "stay at home" mom days. Now the bread machine is my way of baking bread.

I'm in the same boat - work full time, mom, etc. and I love fresh homemade bread so I bought a bread machine two years ago from King Arthur Flour - the Zohorushi brand. I love it - I mostly use the dough cycle which kneads and helps it rise. I make cinnamon rolls, homemade hamburger buns and bread, which I start in the machine then finish in the oven. Definitely pays for itself too when you look at how much really good bread costs, even non-organic is pricey. Plus you know exactly what is in it and you get the ownership of "making it yourself"

It is totally worth it to our family. I got one several years ago at Target, and use it twice a week at least. You can bake recipes that take one hour or three hours. There are many recipes to use. And the bread is so good. And easy to clean up the machine too. I highly recommend it. If you live far from stores, that is one more reason why you will love it. Just keep bread flour and yeast on hand.

My adult, who does not live close to me, she lives in the city daughter, loves her bread machine. Shes a school teacher, a very avid hiker, backpacker, camper. She does not have time to handmake, she puts the ingrediants all in, sets the controls for what kind shes makeing, and goes and does her thing, comes back and its ready to come out and slice. Before she was a teacher, she worked retail in kitchenware/small appliances, and she says hands down, buy "Oster", will outlast all the others, period.

I bought one for my boyfriend for Xmas. It is wonderful. He's busy with the rest of the farm and loves the ease. He's been playing with recipes and even takes loaves to the elderly neighbor. I like the fact that you know what goes in. Yes, handmade is best, but sometimes modern society is helpful.
