Posted - Jan 29 2010 : 05:49:54 AM My favorite is homemade tomato soup made from canned tomatoes from my garden and a grilled cheese sandwich made from thick slices of homemade bread. Nice meal when it is so cold outside and reminds me of my childhood during Lent when we did not eat any meat on Fridays.

Posted - Mar 04 2010 : 04:18:58 AM REESES CUPS lol. I know it is not "food" in the food sense, but it comforts me. Unfortunately I can't get it here, but when I went to the USA and Canada I brought a stash with me YUMMMMMM :)

Posted - Mar 03 2010 : 9:05:39 PM Lately with all this snow and cold, I will have to go with a big bowl of chili with just enough spice and a dollop of sour cream on top and some fresh slightly sweet cornbread.

Posted - Mar 01 2010 : 6:41:19 PM I'll stick with my Chocolate Mousse, thank you very much! I like most of the other stuff listed, but nothing does it like Mousse, and since it's such a breeze to make now, we can have it any time at all. Since it's just the two of us, a batch (8 servings) lasts just long enough until I have the craving again and it's time to get out the whipping cream and chocolate! MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

Posted - Mar 01 2010 : 2:43:49 PM Roast chicken, fresh bread and butter, lemon pound cake, smashed potatoes with green onions, and best of all: homemade macaroni and cheese where the "cheese" is cream cheese and white sauce with a little dijon mustard. YUM!
P.S. See a theme? I loves me some carbs! :) |

Posted - Feb 12 2010 : 6:27:53 PM I like shepperd's pie. I have heard about it all my life, I think, and then this week made one and it became a hit with the hubby and grandson (who is 14 and lives with us.)
It was also something that was great to make. Peeling the spuds and browning the meat, etc. was just about as comforting as eating it. |

Posted - Feb 08 2010 : 1:53:49 PM Chicken and dressing, in our house also referred to as "Chicken Guck". I'm sure the name does not sound appealing, but my mom makes this in the crock pot. Instead of using whole chicken pieces she would cook the chicken and tear the meat off the bone, mix it with the dressing and cook it all day in the crockpot. That stuff is out of this world.

Posted - Feb 05 2010 : 3:59:14 PM I cannot believe someone (I think it was Melina) listed Cream of Wheat! Because as I was clicking on the link, it was the first thing that came to mind for me. Mom used to make it for me whenever I was sick or when I had my period (extra iron). I still want that when I am not feeling well, or have my period! I also lean toward the popcorn on the stove. The coffee and cookies I would not count as "comfort food", but I love them just the same.

Posted - Jan 30 2010 : 4:58:52 PM Just point to the cookie jar and a good cup of coffee. I could nearly survive on it, except I know better. I do limit the comfort of cookies to an occasional occurance. The coffee I have just about every day.
