I was wondering if anyone here is a vegetarian. It's something I have been contemplating for some time. For health more than anything. I'm not really sure if I could ever completely give up meat. But I wanted some advice, and it's hard to find that with out some of the more aggressive "political veggies" getting off track that I might choose this for health reasons. I know this can be a touchy subject for some people so I'm sorry if this upsets anyone.

Hi, I checked out The Mark Bittman cookbook from the library, it's a huge how to cookbook, great for me
since I don't know how to cook all kinds of veggies. The slow cooker book has some good looking recipes too.
Thank you for the suggestions.

Hi! I've been vegan for about 3 years and feel so much better eating this way! I adopted this diet to help control my diabetes (I was off insulin within 2 months of changing my diet!), not necessarily because of animal rights issues. Here are a few of my FAV cookbooks:

Veganomicon: The Ultimate Vegan Cookbook / Isa Chandra Moskowitz
The Joy of Vegan Baking / Colleen Patrick-Goudreau
Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes (a health program book, but with recipes included).

Also, a new one: Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar: 100 Dairy-Free Recipes for Everyone's Favorite Treats / Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero.

There are LOTS of good ones available through your local library and I HIGHLY suggest you check several out before purchasing... many good cookbooks were not for me because of the ingredient lists or cooking procedures or variety (or lack thereof) of recipes. Once I found the ones I really liked, I purchased for my home collection.

There are also some REALLY great websites featuring recipes and tips for vegetarian and vegan cooking.

All the Best!!

I have one daughter that is not completely vegetarian she will eat fish. She doesn't seem to have to much trouble and she gets most of her recipes off the internet. There are some great web-sites.

Well, I guess for starters, could you recomend any good cookbooks?

I have grown up on overly processed foods and very few veggies. So i don't have the widest pallet out there though i'm slowly trying to change that.
