My mom makes mincemeat tarts every year. She buys the jarred stuff {not the NONESUCH brand that you guys have, but I can't remember what it's called off the top of my head} & then adds some chopped up apples to it to make it go further. It's not bad, actually, but when that's the only mincemeat that you have ever had, you don't know the difference. I think I would have issues with eating the "real, made from scratch" mincemeat with the meat & stuff. Ick.

Life isn't about finding yourself. It's about creating yourself.

I think I will go with the jar of mince meat as every one has a recipe for abut 10 jars I just want one.

Thanks Diana

The mincemeat recipe I have has...meat in it--two types, actually. That's the original way to make it. If that's not the one you're interested in, the one post above would do.

One of my favorite holiday cookies is Mincemeat Cookies, using the jarred NONESUCH mincement:

1 c. shortening
1-1/2 cups white sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanille extract
3 eggs
3-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teas. salt
1 teas. baking soda
1 cup chopped walnuts
1-1/2 cups prepared mincemeat, drained

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease cookie sheets.

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs together, then beat in vanilla. Sift flour, salt and baking soda together, and add to shortening mixture. Mix until well blended. Stir in the nuts and mincemeat and mix well. Drop by teaspoonfuls on the cookie sheet.

Bat 8 to 10 min. until light brown.

Yield 7 dozen

These are delicious and also travel well.

Remove jars from canner and complete seals unless closures are self-sealing types.

I use the "Nonesuch" in a box, and add brandy, 2 oz, and sometimes chopped fresh cranberries, 3/4 cup. I bake mine in those little tart shells, that way I can freeze the extras and thaw and eat them when I want to.

The "NONESUCH" that comes sin jars or boxes is really good. The box kind is better because you actually cook it yourself

If all else fails, you can buy a jar of mincemeat in the grocery store. I hate it, but my mother in law used to make homemade mince meat that everyone loved. ewwwwwww Right after my hubby and I got married, I drove by her house and there was a HOG HEAD sitting on her porch!!!!! One of her friends had butchered and they brought her the head to make mince meat and head cheese. She always shared with them for their generosity. Good luck with this one. It gives me the creeps.......ha

I have an old cookbook with an original recipe from Charleston, SC, Diana. I'd be very glad to give it to you next week.
