I'm pretty sure everyone knows this but thought I'd mention it anyway.

Yesterday I did the mother of pot roasts in my cast iron skillet, in the oven and then because dinner was a ways off still, I set the covered skillet on the wood stove (on a trivet) and it kept the pot roast at just the right temp!

Today, I wanted to reheat the left-overs but since I don't have a microwave, I was feeling reluctant on using the oven to reheat. I'm such a chinch with money!!

So, I set the corningware dish, directly from the fridge on the trivet on the wood stove and let 'er sit for a couple of hours. Perfect!!

I'm really getting into this wood stove thing!

Is there a box of some sort that you can sit on your wood stove that works like an oven, except you can't control the temp. I've sort of looked on the net but don't know what to call it. Wood stove box?? Wood stove oven??

We put in a wood stove in our house 11 years ago when we bought our city-tethered house. The house didn't have a fireplace so we opted for a wood burner instead. Best investment we ever put in here. When our electricity went out in an ice storm we used it along with the generator to keep things going. Even though we are in the city it still took the power company 5 days to get us hooked back up. We use it all winter. When we start getting stuff for our home on our land, the wood stove will be among the first to be acquired. I've been a little afraid to try cooking, but I think it is time. We want to be off the grid as much as possible. Chris

Hi there! This past year in KY we had a horrible ice storm. Since we live WAAAAY out of town on 250 acres, the power company wasn't going to be coming for a long time-we knew that. We hooked up our generator, which ran one appliance at a time. (microwave, or dryer, or washer, etc.) This left me having to cook on the woodstove.

I can tell you, cooking on a wood stove is so much fun! I've baked cakes, breads, omelettes...you name it, I made it! The only real tip I have is to cover all your baked goods with another pan, so the heat doesn't escape. Bread on a wood stove is WONDERFUL.

I cooked for about 2 weeks on the woodstove, and finally the power company came and hooked us back up. I was kinda sad about it, to be truthful!

Starbucks and sushi to green fried tomatoes and corn pudding-I wouldn't change it for the world.

I make a hot homemade lemon-orange-apple juice drink, with cinnamon, clove & raw sugar that warms nicely on the wood stove and tastes good after a cold morning of outside chores. It is a lovely hot drink to serve when a neighbor stops by!

My stove is a Vermont Castings.
