I am very interested in participating in this food program. The nearest one is about 1/2 hour away. Have you found that it does indeed save you money? Have any of you found any down-sides to this program that I should be aware of? I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

I picked up my food on Saturday the 21st. I was very impressed with the basic box and also with the fruit and vegetable box. Nothing was outdated and everything is fresh and crisp. A person definately gets their money's worth. I for one will be a repeat customer.

I ordered a basic box and also the fruit and vegetable box yesterday. It cost a total of $55. I go and pick it up this Saturday. I am going to try and cut down costs and just eat from this for the month and an occasional trip to the store for milk, eggs, butter, and sugar. The very basics. Nothing else...I swear! I will let you ladies know if I think the box is reasonable.

Julie,

The angel food is much better than it used to be. I have gotten it for a couple of years now and for awhile I stopped because you got really cheap stuff and not much meat. Now you get much more meat and the quality is much better. I don't remember getting much canned stuff at all and now I don't think there are any canned goods. I think now also, you can get the specials without buying the regular box which is good. I like to buy local too but when money is tight, this may be a good way to go.

Oh I just looked at the Angel Food website. It seems they have made their selections much better than before. I don't see any canned items at all, that is a plus. I also noticed that the breaded items say "Allergen free".I am impressed by the changes I might even try them again.

If you don't mind eating what they give you then it is a good way to save. But I always ended up giving most of it away because I couldn't eat it. they didn't have the fruit and vegetable box then. I would question where it comes from. But that's just me.

All in all it saved me when i didn't have the money to spend. I think it's all a matter of need versus want during these hard times.

I looked into it last year, but as a vegetarian, it seemed like a bad idea to end up getting products I cant use. Otherwise it looks like a good deal to me.

On the website it doesn't show any can foods at all. It does show you what the up coming package will hold. The price the website shows is $30 for the basic box and $22 for the fruit and vegetable box. The basic box also has fruit and vegetables in it.

Our church does this. I bought one once for my DD. It had peanut butter and dried beans which were ok and some fruit. But lots of canned stuff and frozen stuff and the meat is very questionable. Lots of breaded stuff I would not eat personally. But for $25 it's not bad. You get a huge box of food. Plus eggs, too.
