Does anyone know if it is OK to stack your canned jars? I don't have a lot of storage space and have just finished canning tons of applesauce. I don't know if I should stack the jars or not.

Thank you!

The cardboard trick works for me as well. And it did for my MIL for many many years!

I stack 2 high of pints and my DH has put up 2x4's in front of shelves so they won't fall out in case of an earthquake.

You can buy little wire shelves with legs that are about the right height to put one jar under and then the second one can be on the shelf if you are worried about stacking them. They are relatively inexpensive at Wal-Mart. That is what I try to do when I run out of space.

I stack mine 2 high also with the rings on and jars sealed tightly.

I have always stacked 2 high, otherwise I don't have enough room, but I always leave the rings on and make sure they are snug before stacking.

I try not to..but to be honest I sure do end up stacking jars most years. Especially jam and applesauce for some reason. I wish I had tons more shelf space than I do. I don't stack anything bigger than a pint jar ever though, and I never stack jars with meat or veggies..not sure why...just my own little rule.

Hi Luanne,

I stack my canned jars but I usually leave the rings on so they don't get bumped around. They stack better with the rings on too.
