What has been going on in your kitchens? Anything exciting and new for supper? Or old and reliable? What have you been eating?

Monday we had Swiss steak, Garlic-Parmesan orzo, homemade bread, and squash cookies for dessert.
Last night was baked chicken strips with honey mustard, macaroni and cheese, and green beans. For some reason, I never make macaroni and cheese. I like it, but I just don't think about it when planning our meals.
Tonight I think we are going to have Cheeseburger soup, biscuits with apple butter, and maybe something for dessert. Or I might just let the apple butter count as dessert since I am feeling a bit lazy.

Last week I tried new recipes for Butternut Soup, French Bread, and Chocolate Cake, and they all turned out great. I think everyone was surprised at the Butternut Soup. My parents came down for a few days to visit, and when I told my mom what I was making for supper that night she sounded a bit skeptical. She is always up for trying new things, though, and I could tell she didn't expect it to be as good as it was. Even my husband liked it, and he is not a huge fan of squash. He is going to have to get used to it though, because my garden produced a bumper crop this year!

Mary Beth, Your cake looks SO GOOD! I love Pineapple Upside Down Cake :)

I made a super easy custard pie recipe today.

Crazy Quilt Pie - From a GBP book

2 cups milk
4 eggs
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
1 stick butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350. Add ALL of the ingredients in a blender. Blend on a medium setting for the count of ten. Pour into a deep dish pie pan and bake for 45-55 minutes. The flour drops while baking and forms a crust. Everyone at church loved it :)

This week is experimental week :)

I will be trying:

~Curried Sweet Potato Shepherd's Pie (I just had to look up the recipe after Jonni mentioned it :), plus my honey is roasting a turkey this week and I will be trying the recipe with chunks of turkey instead of ground)
~Baked Sausage Stuffed Apples
~Quesadillas de Camarones (By Pioneer Woman)
~Oh, I am also making up my own Brine recipe for the above mentioned turkey, I will keep everyone posted!

I would like to have them canned too. We didn't get enough to do that. How much did you grow? We were just happy that they fully matured here.

Tonight - Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Swiss Chard, Garden Huckleberry Pie

Morning!
It's my day off and I just finished making Challah egg bread (3 loaves) with sesame seeds sprinkled on them...and some cinnamon raisin rolls.
They are still rising, but soon the smell of baking will be permeating through the air. Delish!

For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Wow you girls are making me hungry! Your menus sound great!

I experimented this week with a Crockpot Chicken Tortilla Soup. I don't always like using the crockpot but cook or sear the meat first along with sautéing the onions, etc. and that makes a difference. The soup came out wonderful and I have some for the freezer :)

Today I am making:

~Honey-Pumpkin Pie for my honey
~Dinner isn't very exciting: Grilled Sirloin tip steak w/sweet potato fries and tossed salad
~I am trying a Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookie recipe that Not Quite June Cleaver shared
~Oatmeal Molasses Bread

and some Elderberry Syrup from dried elderberries for medicinal purposes (or pancakes ;))

Thanks Toni! My husband loved dinner and it was a ton of work but well worth it! I'm really relieved that tomorrow is my last day at work too. That was worth leaving!

Everything you all are making sounds so good!

Maryjane~Pumpkin Bread has got to be one of my all-time favorites! I am going to be making some this weekend, I hope.

Kristine~I think I have seen those beans in some of my catalogs, they are beautiful! And the way you make them sounds delicious! Now, you need to give me some pointers on Mac and cheese, please!

Dawn~Your husband is a lucky man! I bet that dinner takes alot of work, but it sounds wonderful. And congratulations on your last day of work, I remember reading that you were unhappy there.

Today is my husband's birthday, so I am making his favorite dinner and dessert. He is Persian, so we are having egg plant Khouresh (beef stew, tomatoes, onions, egg plants, lime juice and spices), saffron rice, stuffed grape leaves and noon (Persian bread). For dessert, cranberry/walnut scones. I also baked up a huge batch of pecan squares to take to work tomorrow for my last day there. I've been baking & cooking for 4+ hours this afternoon! Phew, I'm beat!

Last night we had beans, but not just any beans...we grew them in the garden, Jacob's Cattle Beans (gasless). We have a son (14yrs) named Jacob. Never grew dry beans in western WA, but they grew well and we saved seed to grow more next year. They were cooked with ham bone, onion, garlic & a mild hot pepper. Oh so yummy!

Tonight is Homemade Mac & Cheese. I put some cooked pumpkin in it. This is one of our family's favorites and they want lots of leftovers:)

Curry Sweet potato Shepherds pie--that's always the 1st "autumn" request from my husband. He finished the last a few days back, but then got sick with some bug, so I've been making chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese for the last few nights.

Tonight, it's pork chops with mustard sauce, wild rice and broccoli.

Let's see, this week week was Indian Lentil-Vegetable Stew served over brown rice with a Greek salad stuffed in a pita pocket & last week was grilled chicken pizza with B-B-Q sauce instead of pizza sauce.
