A couple of days ago I took my crock pot out of the cupboard where it had been hiding all summer- and put it in it's place of honor- on the counter, right in between the toaster and the food processor!

Now, I would love to have every farm girl's favorite crockpot recipe!! I do have some, but don't use it enough and I really should!

One of my favorites is potato soup. It came in the recipe book that came with my very first crockpot- in 1978 for my wedding shower. It was the first recipe I ever made in there and we have always loved it!

So, bring those recipes on! It's cold and rainy here and I can't wait to use my crockpot! :)

Sarah, I have a recipe for Moroccan Stew that is pretty good! I actually really like it & it has stuff in it that I'm not sure I would eat by itself. Here it is:

Moroccan Stew

1 c boiling water
1/4 c sundried tomato halves

2 c cubed potatoes
2 c sliced zucchini
1 1/2 c diced onions
1 1/2 c sliced carrots
1 c green pepper
2 tbsp oil
3 c water
19 oz can chickpeas, drained & rinsed
14 oz can roasted red peppers, drained & slivered
1/4 c raisins
1 tbsp chicken or vegetable bouillon powder
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cayenne
1/8 tsp pepper
1/3 c water mixed with 1 1/2 tbsp cornstarch

Pour boiling water over sundried tomato in small bowl. Let stand for 15 minutes until softened. Drain. Cut into thin slivers & set aside.
Put everything in the crockpot & cook on high for about 3-4 hours or low for 6-7. I added chicken to mine since I had it, but I think it would taste realy good without it. Also, it tastes really good with bread. It makes quite a lot & I had it for ages.
**I'm not sure that you really need the sundried tomatoes (diced tomato would probably work just as well) or the roasted red peppers (just use fresh, or roast them yourself, if you're so inclined). I didn't add potatoes to mine either, since it was quite full in my 4 quart crockpot, but if you have a bigger one, feel free to add them. With the zucchini, next time I would make them smaller pieces & probably peel them too, since they just end up falling apart & being big chunks of "stuff" (I hate "chunkies" except in salsa).

Serve with

Cinnamon Couscous
2 c water
1 tbsp chicken or vegetable bouillon
1 tbsp hard margarine
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 1/2 c couscous

Combine water, bouillon, margarine & cinnamon in large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add couscous. Stir. Remove from heat. Cover & let stand for 10 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving.

I'll second the request for the recipe... I was at a memorial service last month and someone at the church had made a crockpot dessert that was warm chocolatey goodness - cake, fudgey, marshmallows, nuts... so would be grateful for your recipe to try it out.

A family favorite for many years has been Crock Pot Chicken and Dressing. Cook several leg quarters in boiling water. Debone chicken and put in crock pot. Add about 1/2 to 3/4 bag of herb seasoned stuffing mix, chopped onion,chopped celery,and about 2 to 3 cups of the chicken stock. (You may need more as the stuffing soaks up liquid) Just to the way you like it. Cook on medium for about 4 hours. And enjoy with some cranberry sauce and a vegetable. My youngest daughter now 29 always expects this for her birthday every year.

My favorite is beef stew, but I use a twist recommended by Cook's Illustrated...I prepare the potatoes and carrots on a large sheet of foil with some oil, salt, pepper and thyme, close it like a hobo package, and set it on top of the meat mixture in the cp. The veggies are perfectly cooked, flavored and not mushy! YUM!

Our favorite crock pot recipe is Salsa Chicken. Put 4-6 boneless, skinless chicken thighs (can use breasts, but they're more expensive!) in the bottom of pot. Sprinkle 1 envelope low-sodium taco seasoning over chicken. Pour 1 can cream of mushroom soup and 1 cup of salsa over chicken. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Remove chicken and shred before adding back to pot. Stir in 1/2 cup sour cream. Serve with rice. Soooo yummy!

One of our favorites is Zesty Beef Roast. Combine on a plate: 1 Tablespoon ground mustard,1 Tablespoon dried oregano, 2 teaspoons chili powder, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon each of salt & pepper. Roll a 3 lb. roast in this until well coated, using ALL the seasoning. Place in greased crock pot. Chunk 4 large potatoes and 4 large carrots and place them around the roast. Cover. Cook on low for 8-9 hours. Do Not Peek!
We like to use the leftovers in quesidillas or burritos with black beans added.

Baked sweet potatoes. Just wash and dry them, and put into the crockpot unpeeled. Add no liquid. You will be surprised how much liquid they produce and how tender they are.

One of my favs is chicken/portabella mushroom soup. It's a nice simple soup for those bone-chilling days. I just cook the chicken til tender in about a qt of water.Add the fresh mushrooms,salt, pepper, garlic and whatever other herbs your tastebuds might be asking for at the time.(it's a very forgiving soup.You can't hurt it)Cook about an hr on high to let flavors mingle. Then add 1 can of evaporated milk, 1 stick of butter and turn the cp off or on warm. Add more seasonings to taste.It freezes well too.Enjoy!

I made a REALLY good Chocolate Lava Cake in the crock pot the other day. My DH said it was really good but he could only eat that one piece because it was very rich...BTW...it was good

It's been quite awhile since I've actually been on this forum....but it's always a joy to come visit!

I bought my very own first crock pot this summer. I'm completely on my own & got sick of trying to decide what was for supper for just me. So I bought a crockpot & can make it up the night before, turn it on in the morning before I go to work & it's ready by the time I get home for supper. Lovely! Some of the recipes I have really liked are Moroccan Stew (vegetarian), Cashew Chicken Chili, Cherry Pork Chops, Chicken Stew, Beefy Macaroni & Indonesian Beef Stew. All of the recipes are from my cousin's Company's Coming Slow Cooker recipes book. I also made a roast with some seasonings (that I can't remember!) & it was DEElicious (as my nephew would say). There is a blog documenting one lady's resolution to use her crockpot every single day for a year (2008 with some updates for 2009) http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/

I just put a lamb roast in the CP this morning for tonight. I've got a cup of veggie broth, a can of coconut milk, fresh garlic, cumin, tumeric, cinnamon, a dash of curry, a couple of tart apples (little ones from our tree), and am cooking it all day. I'll be serving it over rice tonight.

My favorite and easiest one is pork roast with sauerkraut. Just put the pork in the crock-pot rinse sauerkraut put on top add some water or tomato juice. cook on low all day it falls apart and is delicious.

Any piece of elk or beef in the cp and I put one can of tomato soup and one can of french onion soup mixes together pour over the meat. Cook all day good over noodles potatoes rice any thing you like.

One of my familys favorites is pulled barbacue beef. I use chuck roasts, score them, add a layer of bar sauce, meat and more sauce, cook on low all day adding more sauce if needed, and it will fall apart when down, I pull it apart with a fork. I make some crusty french type large rolls, then you have the best sandwichs ever.

How about a pot of chili beans? I use one bag red beans and one bag kidney soak overnight (cooks faster and reduces my husbands well lets say toots :) Cover them with liquid, I use beef broth and water, cook until tender. Then I brown some ground beef with onions and bell peppers add tomatoe sauce, chili powder, cumin, garlic, paprika, salt and black pepper. It's kinda season to taste I've never really measured. Dump mixture in beans, cook a little longer or eat them babies now. Oh, DO NOT forget the sweet cornbread! Sorry I don't have an exact recipe but, it's my hubbies favorite during that first winter storm!

Chicken and herbs
frozen chicken, lots of herbs you like, some vegs you like and let it cook for 6-8 hours. I checked the temp after it had cooked for 6 hours and the temp was 180 and supper was done.
