Posted - Aug 25 2009 : 2:41:53 PM Is anyone else having trouble with the new silver Ball canning lids?? I have had 2 or 3 fail, which has only happened to me once or twice in the past 10 yrs. I canned tomatoes today, & it looks as though the liquid has leaked out on most of the quarts, & one of the jars did not seal. I am canning them exactly as I have done in prior years. Is anyone else noticing an inferior?? quality to these new lids? |

Posted - Aug 27 2009 : 10:37:27 AM Maybe I had a bad box, but all the tomatoes I canned looked weird & only half full (even though most sealed) so I put them in the fridge & am recanning as spaghetti sauce, so those will get pressure canned. |

Posted - Aug 27 2009 : 08:24:18 AM I bought those, too, Lisa, but haven't done a darn thing with them yet. In fact, the jars are still sitting out on the porch, still in their original cases! Will let you know though...if I ever get around to doing something!

Posted - Aug 26 2009 : 07:23:45 AM Haven't had a problem yet and I am on my 5th box of them. Actually the only oe that gave me a problem this year was a gold one and I am sure that is because there was a problem with the ring being slightly out of shape.
I'll be the odd one out- I love the silver color.

Now that you mention it.
I canned a batch of juice last week and noticed one lid didn't seal.
Not much of a fan of the new lids and have started hoarding the old style |

Posted - Aug 25 2009 : 8:27:41 PM I've been canning with them and they have worked fine for me. I did have one jar of corn that didn't seal but that's it. And actaully, I really don't remember if it was one of the new silver lids or not. I will say though that I'm a woman who likes consitency and fears change (*slightly*) so I don't like how they're not the traditional goldish/tan. ;)
