Had two lovely pears at the optimum ripeness but no one to eat them so I pureed them w/a little lemon juice. Then I pureed a pint of blueberries; then one apple (cored/peeled) also w/a little lemon juice. Now they are all simmering in a pot on the stove w/1 cup of sugar.

I'm going to let it just simmer till it's reduced for a while (plus it's making the house smell yummy!) and pour into a jar and put in fridge. We'll see if it sets to a jam consistency or if I have some lovely fruit "something" for ice cream/angel food cake/or pound cake.....

I hate to waste fruit.

BTW...I used a Magic Bullet to do the pureeing. Amazing little monster....it's only here because my BIL forgot to take it home when he came for a visit (and I don't think it's going back!).... My little guy likes it when I make a blueberry smoothie....I fill the cup about 1/2 w/frozen blueberries, add a container of low fat vanilla yogurt or blueberry yogurt, add crushed ice out of the fridge, then fill it almost full with no cal fruit water (using black/blueberry Life Water) then blitz w/the bullet. Amazing! He thinks it's better than ice cream (unless the ice cream is butter pecan...his fav)

YUM! I love love love fruit butters. Fruit butters are a bit thick, and I was thinking the amount of pectin in apples probably makes it more like that then jelly/jam. But, I couldn't say for a certainty. So good to know my instincts were right. Not that I wanted to be right, but I literally love apple butter......and was hoping my idea of how to make it would be right, and not be like jam. lol :)

I have to agree english muffins are my favorite way too!

I had read that apples had pectin in them and thought it would do the trick...alas...really, really, thick fruit butter stuff. It will stick to the spoon and kind of "plop" out when you serve it. It is VERY tasty though. So, I had to make biscuits. Nice. Pretty good on pancakes...and a pnut butter sandwich. Also not too bad as a little side with pork. But my fave? Has to be on English muffins with butter. All those nooks and crunchy crannies!

Alee do you think I could can it?...or should I freeze it (if I make more)

Heather-depends on the apple. Apples have natural pectin in them.

To me with out any pectin I doubt it will become like jam. But, I am betting it will make a awesome fruit butter.
