Posted - Aug 08 2009 : 5:43:55 PM I asked Dad where moms cast iron dutch oven went-it was in the backyard with the lid on it-and it's a mess! Been back there about 7 years So-here I go again....... I remember as a teen on a family camping trip one of the rangers gave a presentation on how to use your dutch oven. I was totally not into cooking at the time & was laughing myself silly at his absolute enthousiasm (I wasn't too bright then) Wish I'd paid more attention now. Man I am really gonna have to do some serious scouring on this thing...

Posted - Aug 08 2009 : 8:22:51 PM Sherrie, I know that this may sound diffrent from other ways to clean a cast iron pan but I use it all the time. I just put the dirty pan into the oven and run it through a self cleaning cycle. After the pan has cooled I wipe out the dirt and rust with a damp paper towel. Then wipe salad oil over all of the pan, the inside and outside. Place the pan back in the oven and turn it to 250 for about one hour. When cool wipe it out again and use.
Hope this helps.
