![](icons/icon_smile_big.gif) ![](icons/icon_smile_cool.gif) ![](icons/icon_smile_tongue.gif) I got up early sunday morning to head out and pick my abundant blue berries. . . however, someone helped themselves to ALL of them!! I was so bummed out, I figured whoever it was really needed them and hope they truly enjoy them. Still, now I am left without. So my dear sweet BF headed out into the woods, 2 hours later he was back grinning from ear to ear. He found the Mother Load of Blue Berries for me!!!
We picked, and picked until we could not pick any more!!! So we have lots in the freezer for winter use and tonight we shall dine on fresh Blue berry goodies straight from the oven!!
Muffins, cobbler, pie, strudel, jam and syrup. We may turn blue!!! LOL!! ![](icons/icon_smile_tongue.gif) ![](icons/icon_smile_wink.gif)

Posted - Aug 05 2009 : 2:02:33 PM I use to have to drive to a pick your own. . . so when we moved here and had our very own blue berries. . well I could not contain my excitement! The one thing we do need to be careful of. . black bears. They love them as much as we do. So we wear our sidearms, just encase one comes along while we are busy picking. ( no, we don't shoot the bear, just fire off a round or two in the air, it scares them away)

Posted - Aug 05 2009 : 1:35:38 PM Wow - how lucky can you get. I have to drive 50 miles to a u-pick farm and usually can only afford 10 pounds worth at a time. That is just enough to make a couple jars of pie filling and some half-pints of sauce for ice cream and french toast. |

Posted - Aug 03 2009 : 7:20:17 PM I love Blueberries too Joanna! Here is a wonderful recipe that my Mother used to make every year. I actually made it when our house was for sale, we had an unexpected visit from a Realtor and sold the house :) It smells and tastes wonderful!
Blueberry-Cinnamon Cake
1/2-cup butter 1-cup sugar 2 eggs 2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/2-teaspoon salt ½ cup milk 1 1/2 cup fresh blueberries 3 Tablespoons sugar mixed with 1-teaspoon cinnamon
Cream butter. Add 1-cup sugar and beat until light. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt and add alternately with milk, beating until smooth. Fold in berries. Pour into a greased 9x9x2-inch glass-baking dish. Sprinkle with sugar-cinnamon mixture. Bake in moderate oven about 375 degrees for about 40 minutes. Cut into squares and serve hot.

Posted - Aug 03 2009 : 6:32:23 PM Oh, I just found a blueberry maple syrup. Blueberry Maple Syrup 1 cup frozen or fresh blueberrys 1/2 maple syrup.
In a saucepan over low heat, add the blueberry. Cover and let cook until the berris have softened and somewhat dissolved. Remove from heat and add the maple syrup. With a handblender or in a blender, puree the mixture a little, smoothing to desired consistency. Cool to room temperature and serve. Extra syrup can be refrigerated for a couple of weeks, or frozen to be thawed for later use.
Enjoy! Maggie |

Posted - Aug 03 2009 : 5:12:14 PM Here's a wonderful recipe that I made with blueberrys. You'll love it!! It gots very good with a cup of tea or coffee.
BlueBerry Bounty Buns These buns burst with blueberry goodness! A cross between a muffin and a scone, they're just sweet enough, and very easy to make.
1 cup + 1 tbsp ground oats 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour or unbleached all-purpose flour 1 tsp + half a tsp of baking powder 1/2 tsp of baking soda 1/4 cup of unrefined sugar 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp sea salt 3/4 cup vanilla soy milk 1 tbsp flax meal 2 tbsp pure maple syrup 1 tsp pure vanilla extract 1/4 cup canola oil 1 cup frozen or fresh blueberrys
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine the ground oats and flour, and sift in the baking powder and baking soda. Stir in the remaining dry ingredients and mix to combine well. In another bowl, combine the soy milk and flax meal, stir and let sit for 1 minute. Add the maple syrup, vanilla, and canola oil, and stir though. Add the blueberrys. Immediately add the wet mixture to the dry mixture, and stir through until just well combined. Scoop large spoonfuls of the mixture (roughly 1/2 cup each) onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20-23 minutes, until the buns are lightly golden and are set in the center (gently touch to check). Remove from oven and let cool on pan for 1 minute, then transfer to a cooling rack. Makes 6-7 buns. Hope you guys (girls) try these. And don't be fooled by the soy milk or that there's no butter or eggs. There wonderful!! Maggie |

Posted - Aug 03 2009 : 4:03:45 PM How wonderful that your husband went on a blueberry hunt. They are just such wonderful items. We don't usually get blueberries here until almost September...

Posted - Aug 03 2009 : 3:48:54 PM I had a cherry tree once that I could never get picked...just because I would think...just one more day...and then the birds would swoop in and devour the whole thing! It was so heart rendering to go out there to find a naked tree with (maybe) just a few pits clinging to their stems....
Glad you got your fill this time! ;-) |

Posted - Aug 03 2009 : 1:34:49 PM I love your positive attitude Joanna!! And someone bigger than I did also and so your needs were met with a smiling friend and buckets of berries. He never lets us down. I smell blueberries all the way over here in TX. OH that must be because I'm juicing them in my steam juicer also. LOL I guess we will all have our fill of blueberries this year. I was blessed with a bartering jar of blue berry syrup from Angela Muller with the recipe so I'm using it to fill my pantry. She has wonderful recipes for her bounties. Smiles, Melody June
