Last night I went grocery shopping for milk, eggs and yogurt. Unfortunately, I didn't remember to bring my groceries in the house... Oops! How stupid was that? Anyway, I buy raw milk and I can't decide if it should be OK to drink after being in the car all night. I remembered this morning at 6 and it was cool to the touch.It was not hot last night either. It tastes fine and was sealed with no bloating at the seal...I'm just not sure if any bacteria could fester without a taste. I have myself convinced that it is fine because when I make Kefir I leave the milk at room temp for longer...
I know the eggs and yogurt are fine but the milk??? Any thoughts?

Hana, Thanks!!! :) I'm not sure where a Whole Foods is in Oakland. I'll have to look it up! When we're low on local raw milk I buy ours from Organic Pastures. It is so stinkin' expensive though after shipping. My parents are coming up to visit next month. I'll have to have them look into it down there and see what they can get it for.

Heather, didn't they just build a new Whole Foods on College Ave? Where there was an Albertson's? Maybe its a Trader Joe's....not sure. Us peninsula people don't get over to the east bay much but I do remember that an Albertson's closed and it was going to be either WF or TJ's. My Xboyfriend and I really enjoyed Oliveto on College Ave. Great place for a date night!

Heather, I get it at Whole Foods. My RWC store stocks it but its scarce. I've turned into one of those crazy Whole Foods people that knows the delivery day and time of the milk! Ha ha! You'll have to check the WF in Oakland because I have gone to other Bay Area WF and they don't have as many options. I like the Claravale brand for the taste and the glass bottle. They also have the Organic Pastures brand in different sizes which I'm sure is nice with kids. My store stocks the OP butter too if that helps.

Oh, Hana, I just saw that you were in Redwood City. Where do you get raw milk in the bay area? I'm curious because my parents live in Oakland and we always have to cart all out milk down there for visits. If we could buy it there it would be much easier!

I once got 5 gallons of raw milk before a camping trip and left it out overnight (by mistake) My entire family drank it all on our trip and we were totally fine. Raw milk never really goes "bad" like pasturized milk does.

Thanks ladies! I had a little this morning and I'm fine so far! I could not bear to throw it away at five dollars a bottle plus a bottle deposit! See all the trouble you have to go through when you have to try an find a parking spot! It makes you forget your groceries in the car over night!

I have done that before and just did a quick taste test before drinking for the next couple days. We all know how bad spoiled milk tastes and smells so I am pretty sure you would know if something was wrong. If it is sealed so nicely you are probably safe there too.

I would cool it off quickly...like Kristin said..in ice water (I use a dishpan of ice water and sit the big jar right down into it in the fridge if there is room. If it was cool when you found it and it was fresh and smells good I would likely use it..but maybe for something cooked. (pudding, gravy etc) I sure wouldn't throw it out. At the very least the hens would get it. I have done that sort of thing myself. Lucky it wasn't a hot night!

If you have any doubt at all you could make buttermilk with it. If it were old store bought milk I would not touch it if it had been left out overnight! But raw milk I would. I would put it in a bucket of ice water real quick, too.

And I do stuff like that ALL the time. Don't feel bad. I left one of my goats on the stanchion for over an hour a few weeks ago while I went in to strain the milk. Poor girl. And I have left things in the car. I left my purse outside the last rain we had. It just goes on and on.

if it smells ok, if it tastes ok, and there isn't any lumps, and you know it never got warm, I would take the chance, but that just me
