 Blackberry sauce for steak. Great use of berries!

We have a wonderful crop of blackberries this year, and my husband kept a handful out for himself last night while making dinner.

As he put it, "everything but the cow" came from our garden...He smashed the berries, placed them in a saute pan with garlic and finely chopped onion. When the berries start to release their juices and begin to form a sauce, he added a little red wine, and let that simmer to reduce.

He spooned the sauce over pan seared (and finished in the oven) filet mignon, and served the steaks along side oven roasted fresh green beans and German Butterball potatoes, roasted with fresh rosemary, sea salt and olive oil. It was SOOOOO good! And, yet another use for those blackberries!

hahahhaa, snort, chuckle laugh out loudddddd!!!! Lisa, that cracked me up first thing when I opened the thread!!!

That's for darn sure! Last night, we had some friends over for dinner and he made penne with an herbed brie cream sauce, bacon, roasted red peppers, and pears. It was WONDERFUL!!!

It was soooo good, Lisa!!! He was right on with this one! Gone are the days of the "steak omlette"...he's an amazing cook!

I would grow the German Butterballs again, Lisa. They are similar to Yukon's, but not quite as starchy. Great all purpose, though. We've roasted them, boiled them with butter and parsley, mashed them and made an au gratin, and they hold up nicely. VERY sweet, creamy texture.

OMG, Jonni, I'm drooling over that dinner Jus made you! How are those German Butterball potatoes? Are they anything like Yukon Gold?

That does sound good. Years ago I made a BBQ sauce for ribs using blackberries - it worked wonderfully.

That sounds great! The whole meal sounds wonderful! I love Blackberries. I have a great recipe for Blackberry Syrup if you would like it :)
