I am pretty sold on All American. I water bath can but have never pressure canned. We are a family of four and I am working on feeding us entirely from our farm but we are more than a few years away from that still given we just moved on our property and don't own a chicken yet. :)

What size would you recommend?
What sites would you recommend?
What books would you recommend?
What recipes would you recommend?

And where do I get the best price? I have not been able to find a way to see where they are sold near me. I may have to call them later today. I can't imagine that they are cheaper through internet because of shipping.

Thank you ladies.

Jana

My chickens are doing good, in fact DH suprised me and ordered 27 more to add to my flock. The new chickies will arrive on Monday or Tuesday, I can't wait! DH spent his time off during the 4th of July holiday setting up the brooder and adding more nest boxes to the 2 coops.

Our garden is off and running!!! I just harvested the first 2 cherry tomatos and they were delicious! Peas are coming on strong, and belive it or not my hot peppers are going crazy! The last month I have been going to the local farms and picking berries to put up and am almost done with that project. Yesterday I canned 14 pints of Kotata Blackberries, 10 half pints of blackberry jam, and 6 half pints of sauce. Another few weeks and the garden will allow me to start canning from it, I can't wait! You know my potatos are going crazy this year too, kind of scares me since we planted 20 pounds of them! My broccoli bolted too, so as soon as the peas are finished I will be replanting broccoli.

Let me know when you get your canner. I know I was so excited to tell someone I called my SIL, she just giggled and amused me.

Have a great day.

Thanks Lillian. That is the one I am eyeing. I just put the book on hold at the library so that I can look at it first. How is your garden growing now? How are your chickens? We still don't have any but my husband is almost done with the chicken tractor and then we will be on the hunt for layers so we can have our own eggs a little while before winter. Spring will be fun next year since we are in and can get some chicks. My zucchini is starting to produce now, my corn looks awesome, the potatoes are crazy, lettuce bolted, broccoli bolted and I don't know what some things are in the garden but I have peas now. Overall I am pretty happy. I also made strawberry, blueberry and cherry jelly and brandied cherries so far. I frozen lots of green beans from the farmer's market. All I need now is livestock for viewing and future suppers.

Hi Jana- My All American arrived last week! I spent alot of time trying to decide which one to buy also. We ended up with the 921 and I found the best price came from this website. http://www.allamericancanner.com/allamericanpressurecanner.htm

If you order before 2:00pm their time then it will ship that day! I haven't canned anything yet, but hoping to this weekend. As far as books go my favorite is the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving- 400 recipes in there! It explaines everything so nicely. I have a bunch of canning books, but most of them have recipes for hot bath items. So I have been on the lookout for a cookbook with prssure canned items too.
