Here's some stuff I've learned during the last few months, which is when I started making jam. It's so yummy and WAY worth trying.

there are recipes that call for Splenda, but in all my years of jam/jelly making it never yielded good results.

and since I sell mine year round, i'd rather not goof up a good thing for the loyal followers.

Hi Jelly jam makers, I love homemade jelly and jam but find that the recipe on the pectin is way too sweet, is there any way to cut back on the sweetness? We tried last year, to use the sugar free pectin, and our jelly turned out runny, more like syrup than jelly. We also had the ugliest looking strawberry jelly, it turned mud colored, any idea what we are doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have alot of frozen berries I don't want to ruin. I love making jam! Last year I tried it for the first time and it was awesome! It wasn't hard like I thought and it turned out so well! I gave some away with my home-baked bread as gifts and I ate the rest. So yummy!

Karin - how did you make the pear butter - my pear tree is very "fruitful", I've not found a recipe I'm happy with.

Thanks! Gail

There are recipes to make apple butter in the crockpot also. How much easier can you get? Fix It and Forget It Cookbook has other recipes too. Apple butter takes so long by the original method. I can remember my mother stirring and stirring for hours it seemed.

I'm waiting for my strawberries and raspberries to produce, which they will within the next month or so. Lots of strawberries will go into the freezer. Sooooo good in the winter.

I love to make jam and give it as gifts at Christmas with homemade bread.
Apricot jam is my all time favorite.

Nothing better than homemade jam. Last year i finally had enough raspberries to make almost three dozen jars of jam. The price of raspberries is so high i would never be able to buy enough to even make a small batch. i made pear butter from pears a friend gave me.

Thanks for the recipe. You've inspired me to try it this summer.
