When cooking a pork roast what do you use for a liquid in the roasting pan?

I use sauerkraut with a little bit of water or a can of tomatoes. Next time I'm going to use applesauce that sounded real good. I guess I will have that sometime next week.

Thanks, Jeannie...that sounds wonderful! I will hijack your recipe if you don't mind :)

I made a really good beef stew last night (without a recipe, I might add :)) in the crockpot and I loved how easy it was...as Violet gets a bit older, I will have things down pat a little more when I come home, so that I can prepare dinner for "tomorrow" when I get home from work the night before. Just a little preparation goes a looooong way. I was so happy to come in last night to that wonderful smell, and only have to heat up a salted rye loaf to have as an accompanyment to our stew. It wasn't even 6:30 when we sat down, glass of wine in hand, to dinner.

I crockpot my pork loin with a half cup honey, a half cup water and salt and pepper to taste and then cook it for 6-8 hours. It is a good size roast. I love my crockpot!

Ok....so about Pork Roasts in the crockpot.

Who does them--how long do they cook? I bought three on sale at the market last week and thought they would make good stretchers since we're coming home with the baby...

It's apple juice or cider here, too. The gravy is so good.
I do pork chops with sauekraut in the crock pot. That's good, too.

I use teriyaki sauce, a bit of tuscan italian dressing, a dash of garlic salt and a dob of butter. then I cover it with foil and bake it.

I guess this might be a Southern thing but I cover the pork in salt,I mean like it snowed on it. Next I pepper it pretty good and sometimes garlic powder or garlic salt. A little water or sometimes just pour about an inch of vinegar in pan. It is soooooo good. Another way is... Ever heard of Treet Sauce? It is sold in the bar b q sauce section. Pour this over the pork roast put it in the oven or on the grill and man it is superduper good.

My mother was Danish and her mom was a professional chef many years ago. We Danes like the pork. One of the nicest recipes I have ever made is pork loin stuffed with prunes and apples, cooked in a sauce of cream, vermouth and lingonberries. Pork tastes so good with fruit. Soemtimes I just make a plain roast and then have fried apples on the side. Sauerkraut is good, but I'm the lone fan at my house...

I have used a bit if water, garlic, salt, pepper, rosemary and balsamic vinegar. I put it into the big stoneware pampered chef bowl and covered it with the deep dish baker, cooked at 350 for 4-5 hours. My husband wouldn't even wait to put it on his plate, he would eat it as soon as it came out!

Apple juice or water for sure. I also LOVE saurkraut with a pork roast. My husband isn't a fan though, so we (the kids and I) have it as a side dish, not cooked alot with the roast. yum!! I could eat saurkraut every day!!

I sure wish my husband would eat sauerkraut with a pork roast. It would make it so moist, I bet. He wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole--it's a vinegar based vege, and vinegar is a no-no in his world!!! Even to clean with!

I second the sauerkraut plus I stuff it with cloves of garlic and pour some white wine over it. This is makin' me hungry.

I like to put a jar of sourkraut on my pork roast. Usually cook the big ones in the crock pot. I also like to use applesauce. I will use just water if the roast if fatty. Seems like the fat cooks out better with some water in the pan. Then I put all the juice, water and fat in the fridge and let the fat come to the top so I can skim it off. I use this kind of pork roast in other recipes like mexican or chinese.

The last several roasts I've made I have used my apple cider. I just pour about 2 cups over the roast, then salt and pepper it and add lots of onion and whole garlic cloves. I start it out at about 450 for about an hour then turn it down to 250 and cook it all day. It is amazingly good. And falls apart tender, too.

I use water or a blend of water and beef or pork stock. I stuff my roasts with cloves of garlic and herbs to flavor.
