I mean the tiny little black ants that seem to take over whereever they are? Last nite, my hubby found a bunch in the freezer! No kidding. They were frozen solid, little black mummies.
We've found them in the bedroom on the nightstand, on the kitchen counter, outside on the deck doing a conga line...anywhere you can think.
Hubby is spraying everything which makes me nervous.
What do you do for them?

Winona, try the mint...plant it all around your house if you have to!!! I forgot all about that! Wow, I even took the "herb" classes! Must be what stress does to ya! LOL:) Remember it's an evasive herb and will take over if you let it!! (I let it, I love mint!)

We get those little ants every year in our kitchen - it is the part of the house that has not been remodeled yet and I think there is probably dampness under that area since it does not sit on a foundation, etc. The ants are attracted to the moisture - they can live in water for days. We put all of the sweet stuff up in the cabinets - honey, sugar, etc. That has seem to keep them at bay and I hate to say it but we do have to spray. I hate doing it, but so far have not found a non-toxic way to get rid of them. Usually when the weather warms up and drys out, they go aways. Can't wait for the day that we tear off that end of the house and rebuild a new kitchen, I think that will take care of the problem for good. In the meantime they are entertainment for the cats - they like to follow the line of them and see where they go.

go to general chat forum, go to Cleaning Up and it is under "How do I get rid of Black Ants."
Seems they are a problem everywhere. I am doing the red chili pepper suggestions.
I'll let you know how it goes,

Boy, howdy...I have mint already in my planters so I'll pop some out around the house.
My little sugar ants like anything they with which they can catch up. Sweet or greasy, they are there! But that still doesn't account for our nitestand, except it is near a window.

You need to plan mint outside your window...all the way around your house for that matter.

My black ants are grease ants. They go after greasy things. You ought to see a cheez-it if I drop one on the floor or leave it on the counter. I don't know how to get rid of them either. The other day I found them in the pantry, just one shelf. Something on that shelf had attracted them. I took everything off the shelf and sprayed with "Bad, Bad" ant spray. Let the shelf dry, wiped with a damp towel, let dry and put the stuff back. Have only seen one in there since. Yes, i think they are looking for someplace dry, it's rainy here also. |

Peachy, I checked your blog and am now a follower. It is really nice!! My blogs are plain janes right now as I don't really know what I'm doing. I had another blog with wordpress but lost the password, of all things. It was about all the horses I've owned. Maybe one of these days I'll remember that pesky password! I need to spiff up my blogs.
As for the sweet, in my kitchen, it doesn't even have to be sweet, just edible of some type and they are ON it. I think there may be some crispy fritter-ants in my stove too... (I have to add this to my blog...)

Thanks for the reminder.
i need to toss the 30 day cake starter. Once this warmer weather hits, I'm done for if there is anything even remotely sweet that hasn't been wiped up.

Warm get well wishes and I added myself to your blog! I have to go check out your adventures in cooking next! Please check mine out too! And those darn ants - it's funny that they were in your freezer?!! I can see hunting for a dry spot but that's a pretty chilly spot to hide out!!

Well, thank you very much! I have a sinus infection that is getting me down but I'm so addicted to the 'puter that I can't resist checking things.
We've had a really rainy season, wetter than normal, and I'm thinking the little varmints are hunting for a dry spot...which is my house.
Please keep reading my blogs and tell others, if you would. Just a lot of fun for me...and a place to vent at time...hehehe...
