Aprons rock! Though they do make me miss Gram an aweful lot. She had roses on everything ... and anytime someone mentioned they didn't like some article of clothing, her cure-all answer would be "Oh, just stick a piece 'a lace on it and It'll be fine,"

I got the 1940 apron pattern from calico cat and I love it, its confortable and fits nice. I made it in a small pront sunflower with a brown backgrown. It reminds me of my grandmother.

i bought three two vintage aprons in 'lavendars' today .. gonna' cut them up and make some dolly clothes .. my valentine swap partner likes 'dirty lavendar' (PRIMITIVE) .. sounds WONDERFUL .. soooo .. i challenged myself to find some vintage fabric close to this color and tea stain it .. can hardly wait to see what it looks like. i didn't ordinarily think of lavendar and purple being 'primitive' .. but now i do!!! thanks BRIDGE!

I don't understand why everyone doesn't wear aprons when doing housework and cooking. All of my clothes would be ruined if I didn't. I'm going to try that pattern in MJ's book -- I have been looking for an apron with a wide strap on the shoulder because when carrying my daughter I'm always bound to get sweet potato or something on my shoulder.
Speaking of aprons, my husband's grandmother made the most adorble skirt aprons with rick rack (sp?) and everything. Pretty fancy. We found them in some old boxes. I don't want to use them because frankly I will stain them, but I plan to display them in my kitchen or informal dining room. |

I agree with you Jenny. My grandma had her apron on ALL the time, unless she was going "upstreet" to the store or church!I always knew grandma meant business!! I pretty much have mine on all day...unless I'm going "into town".Still working on that "keeper of the home" authority thing! My daughter has outgrown hers. Time to get sewing!

I wear my aprons like a uniform..and oldest daughter (who is 11 now) puts hers on right after school..I have never had anyone "copy" me before and it is flattering! And she looks cute in it. She is my best helper too..maybe it is the apron. Younger daughter will put hers on when she helps cook supper occasionally but the oldest, Summer is really into it now. All my older kids are boys. Both of my grandma's wore their aprons and always had that "keeper of the home" athority. My mom didn't..and didn't. I guess it skipped her generation.

I got my first apron for christmas this year. It's bright orange and yellow with little green froggies all over it.. hardly the beautiful dignified thing that the website spoke of, but I really enjoy it. She is right it does make you feel more like the "Keeper of the house".
Someday I want to get one of the pretty frilly ones or even something with a plain cut but a pretty fabric. In the mean time me and my neon froggies will continue cooking and cleaning the day away :)

I just bought an apron pattern and plan to play around in a few weeks (other projects first!).
I don't wear skirts much - usually I'm in jeans or even overalls. But an apron is still much-used (especially when baking bread - I ALWAYS get flour all over me! and I am bored with my store-bought version. |
