I'm thinking of making a homemade smoker. I know there's the one Alton Brown made out of flower pots on Good Eats, but I'm wondering if there are other ways to make a homemade smoker. Can any of you ladies out there recommend a good smoker design or idea?

That's the goal eventually, Lisa. ;)

What about the old fashioned smoke house? That's what I want. I want to be able to smoke an entire butchered animal all at once. I wonder if haybale construction would be good enough for that purpose?

Actually, we ended up making a smoker with a galvanized trash can last night. Guess it was meant to be. ;)

My husband made one from a galvanized steel trash can. He found the instructions online at winecanine.com/smoker.html. Even though I am not a fan of smoked food, it smokes better than his old store bought smoker and you can fit larger amounts of meat!

Stephanie,

Here are a couple of links with instructions. I guess it depends how much you want to spend :)

Some people make them out of old refrigerators. Take the motor and electrical stuff out of the bottom, punch a few holes, and put the smoky fire underneath.
