Microwave quit the other day and I've decided I don't want another one. Now, maybe I'll cave w/out the convenience of the darn thing...but I'm thinking...I grew up w/out a microwave. Why can't I live w/out one now?

It does mean getting out a pot for warming up soup or planning ahead to defrost the burger or chicken. It also means turning on the oven for reheating a taco platter or making "fresh" pancakes on the stove instead of "zapping" the frozen ones.

It is a little difficult on my hubby who likes to "warm up" yesterday's coffee while he's waiting on the new pot to perk. And what about tea? I have a great kettle and a gas stove...do I really need to radiate my water to boiling??? OK so I will miss zapping my instant oatmeal when I'm running late to work and then eating it all warm in my cold car.....

I don't know. What do you ladies do? Wav or not to wav?

I have a small microwave oven that is mainly used to heat up my pets' food before serving it to them. Just a few seconds is all that's needed to warm it to their satisfaction. Other than that, it's used for heating up sweet rolls or breads that have become slightly hard. It softens them a bit if not left in too long.

I got a microwave whenmy daughter was diagnosed with type one diabetes when she was ten. It made things much easier when we were all adjusting to Susannah's needs. My microwave is about to self destruct and I don't think I need one anymore. I mostly use it to melt a few things and maybe throw in a piece of squash when I'm struggling to get things done all at once. I do think it is easy to just do like we always did when i was young, I have a stove top gas range and a wall oven and that should be enough to get things made.

I have two toaster ovens..let me explain..One, is my favorite..a very small just my size GE. I LOVE IT..it works GREAT..heats up fast, etc. (it is now sitting in my craft room for anything I may want to use it for in there..although I haven't used it in there yet!)
The hubby's mom gave us a very fancy, bigger "Black and Decker" which I hate. It heats slow, it's hard to do anything with..it's more 'electronic' instead of my little dial-knob simple GE.

I use it..yeah, but ya gotta plan way ahead cuz it takes longer to 'heat up' and can't plan on using it for anything more then like 300degrees (the higest temp it will go)..which defeats the purpuse of biscuits or cornbread! It gets used very little and I'm so wanting to switch back (which we probably will!)

Seems to me, the fancier something is..the less it works right!

My toaster oven is a DeLonghi. It has a fan bake feature. Love it, love it, love it. I only use my microwave to warm up my coffee. I have a habit of sitting here talking to you girls and letting my coffee get cold. Ole Ron uses it to warm up leftovers. I never cook in it. Could do without it but probably won't.

Good for you. We went without a microwave for about a year and a half. The comments we got were funny. Some folks just can't believe that a kitchen could be efficient without one. Then, found one on sale for $25.00. It's very small and no bells or whistles, but it's good for heating up things when time is short. We could definately go without again when this one goes out.

We are currently looking for a good toaster oven. One that toasts bread well. Can I ask what brand toaster oven you have?

You can do it,T! I have one but all I use it for is defrosting and heating up milk for my bread. I can do that on the stove, too. I have heard alot of bad things about micrwaves, too. Enough to make me throw mine out.

I gave up my 'wav' MANY years ago, then my 'loving' sister thought I should have one. So ..here it sits, a very small one, very old. You know what it gets used for?? heating up coffee from the previous night while I'm waiting on the mornings pot to brew. Could I do without that..yep! Sure could. When I got rid of the wave years ago, I replaced it with a small toaster oven and got rid of the regular toaster too. LOVED IT ..no more 'stuff' on my counter. (Then, silly me went and got married about a year and 1/2 ago, and the hubby..well he thinks he MUST have a microwave and a toaster instead of my toaster oven. (sigh)) Guess what..he still don't use the microwave..I do all the cooking..why would he need to use it! LOL
