I bought the book, Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day recently. Yesterday I made the starter and this morning, baked my first loaf - a French Boule. It was so easy and turned out beautifully and delicious! My husband was most impressed - he said it looked professional, and I have to agree - you could have bought it at any bakery. I highly recommend the book. The idea is you make enough wet starter to pull off a bit, make a loaf fresh each day. There's enough for 14 days, hence "5 minutes a day".

made the pecan sticky rolls (cinnamon rolls) tonight - very beautiful and delicious! Good reviews from all members of the family.

I made this bread today, from the mother earth news article. It is wonderful. Talk about a great artisian bread. gosh it was good. And oh so easy as well. I just did a small batch to see how it would turn out. I love the idea that it can sit in the fridge till you are ready to make something with it.

Karen, lucky you that your library had a copy of the 5 minute book. I love my library and it has tons of great cookbooks/baking books, but sometimes it takes them forever to get a copy of a new book and I am too impatient. I like it so much that even if I had borrowed it first, I would've bought it anyway.

I picked up another bread book, Bread from the La Brea Bakery, at the bookstore. It has alot of good info in it as well as recipes. If you see it used, pick it up.

I think the cinnamon rolls recipe is in the article in the link. I just use the dough and make up my own recipe depending on what I feel like at the moment (sticky rolls, iced rolls, etc).

Oh, gosh - cinnamon rolls. Haven't made them in a while, but my husband has been dropping the hint lately...I'll keep reading the book. He's out of town this week and wouldn't it be grand to have them ready when he gets home Friday night!

These days, i'm looking at the library for bread baking books generally, especially now that MaryJane has turned me sour, and I have found a lot of great titles including the 5 minute one...Don't forget to Check out the library if you don't want to buy. My library lets me search online and reserve titles then sends me an email if a title that i want was out in circulation and then again when it has arrived for pick up or needs to come from another branch, etc. Talk about service!

Wow, Suzanne - with that article, you don't need to buy the book. Friday night we used the dough to make individual pizzas. They were so delicious, we seriously have no need to order pizza anymore. Just cut off a chunk of dough and rolled it out instead of shaping a loaf, topped with tomato sauce, vegetables, cheese, italian sausage - whatever each of us wanted. Baked for 8 minutes - wonderful!

I've been making this bread as well as MJF sourdough starter and recipes, and I'm enjoying them all! Since I'm not real crazy about the taste of sourdough this article hit home with me. It's really easy to make.

Thanks for the reminder.... personally I will never buy another bread book EVER....I would rather spend the money buying MJF Flour and making all the yummy things I can make with Bread MaryJanes way.... By the way.. I cant wait to try Julie's carrot cake.....I droll over the pictur every time I go onto that thread :)

I bought my Artisan Bread book at my local mom and pop bookstore.....I've been contemplating it for a while and finally just went ahead and bought it, but you can get it at amazon or anywhere books are sold. It is easy reading too. I enjoyed reading it yesterday while at the ice rink waiting for my son's hockey practice and then ice skating lessons for my other three. It is very interesting and describes many troubleshooting issues...for those of us who aren't exactly "naturals" when it comes to the art of bread baking.

I got my book at Border's last Saturday.
What expensive equipment? I used a bowl and a wooden spoon...
I did buy a pizza stone from Target, but wanted one anyway, and it wasn't expensive.
I've made bread all my life, including sourdough. I really enjoy making bread and trying different methods. I thought this was very easy and got delicious results. I'm also reading Maryjane's way and have bought organic flour and distilled water in order to try her method as well...

check out powellsbooks.com the world's largest independent bookstore.
mary jane's sourdough recipe is easy, this is just another alternative.
powells also has used books for some titles, not sure about artisan bread. the main store is one entire city block, three stories high in downtown portland, oregon. pretty amazing.

Hey guys, I hope you check out this thread http://www.maryjanesfarm.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=28238. Our very own MaryJane has developed a great process that takes much LESS than five minutes a day and doesn't use store-bought yeasts but the more healthy, balanced air-borne yeasts that are FREE! (Called TRUE sourdough!) And her process is a lot more simple than the Artisan Bread process and requires less expensive equipment than theirs requires.
