Posted - Feb 22 2009 : 8:50:54 PM What is your fav herb/spice and why...or how do you use it? My fav is Rosemary. I cube potatoes, drizzle some olive oil, sprinkle some sea salt and crush dried rosemary all over. I then shake/stir it all up and roast them in the oven. YUM! YUM!!

Posted - Feb 25 2009 : 10:53:26 AM I love all the herbs in my garden, I try to add a few new ones every year but one of my favorites is chives! I have them growing all over the place here! Chives in mashed potatoes and chive butter is my favorite! Thyme is another one...you can never have enough thyme to garden, cook, sew and just thyme to sit and rock on a nice sunny warm day with a good book!

Posted - Feb 25 2009 : 10:03:24 AM hmmmmm.. I would have to say thyme...particularly lemon thyme. Love it in soups, in sauces, in butter and and also in butter/cheese spreads for bread or baguettes. I also just love the smell of it. There are so many wonderful herbs and spices too..cinnamon is probably what spice I use the most, then vanilla and fresh nutmeg! yum. ![](icons/icon_smile_wink.gif) |

Posted - Feb 24 2009 : 07:03:51 AM I agree with Dawn, it is so hard to narrow it down to one spice! I suppose that if I had to pick the one that I truly could not live without, it would be cinnamon. I am an avid baker, and my family adores quick breads...cinnamon raisin, peach, and many other variations, so cinnamon is well-used in my kitchen. Not to mention, I truly love hot cocoa, laced with a touch of this wonderful spice!

Posted - Feb 24 2009 : 06:46:00 AM Impossible for me to narrow it down to just one herb. So the following are our favorites here, mint, basil, and rosemary. We eat them on a nearly daily basis, all herbs make everything taste better to us!

Posted - Feb 23 2009 : 5:43:45 PM Gosh...just one? Well, basil (but there are Soooooo many varieties!!!!) and I use them all from making summer pesto to thai cooking.
I also really love cooking with lavender. Unfortunately, I'm the only one who seems to like the flavor--my husband says it's too perfum-y |

Posted - Feb 23 2009 : 4:57:32 PM I have discovered the most decadent thing, Spanish Hot Paprika. It has the most amazing smokey aroma and taste. I just put it on boiled eggs and that was all they needed. Can't wait to use it on potatoes. I was lucky enough to find it at the Ft. Worth Stock yards, but they have a web add. www.spiceandtea.com |

Posted - Feb 23 2009 : 10:58:07 AM I vote for basil!!!! It's so wonderful, and comes in so many varities. I use the purple basil to make purple pesto, beautifully colored herbed vinegars, and even jelly! The african blue basil makes fantastic jelly and vinegar as well. The lemon basil is amazing in tea! |

![](http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss86/melody_034/rosemary.gif) ROSEMARY....Every year I bring in my potted Rosemary plants and place them on an old 32-drawer cupboard in the kitchen. I use rosemary in my bath salts, my healing salve, my soap and on and on.
My favorite herb is definately ROSEMARY! ![](icons/icon_smile_clown.gif)

Posted - Feb 23 2009 : 08:21:50 AM I really love Cilantro. Next would be thyme and then whole nutmeg. I love all herbs and spices that are not firey. My husband is not a big fan of spices unless they are firey. Thyme and nutmeg are nice cause the flavors are so subtle that unless he sees it he doesn't know it is in there!

Posted - Feb 23 2009 : 07:01:06 AM It's so hard to pick just one but I love Rosemary too. That potato recipe sounds wonderful, my husband made something similiar to it once. But basil is wonderful too. We grow both.
Cardamon is so nice too, my husband likes to put it in his coffee. And nutmeg and cinnamon add nice touches to a lot of recipes.

Posted - Feb 22 2009 : 10:17:14 PM I am a big rosemary fan. I love it with potatoes and with chicken too. I just love the smell of it, the plants are beautiful and it is so fragrant!!! I overwintered a rosemary plant this year inside and I am loving that I can move it outside and plant it in a couple months again. Just the perfect herb. I would hate to be without chives and thyme too though.
