I think I need to dig in there further!

I went to the store yesterday and noticed that they had some whole fryers on sale for .59 cents a lb. Thought I'd pick up a few to roast. I searched and searched - finally found them. Odd looking things, they were the size of pigeons! They didn't come home with me. Hideous looking things.

I'm still hunting for a bargain.

Well I was inspired by Chef Gordon Ramsey. He did this delicious Truffle Butter treatment to his Christmas Turkeys... well of course I don't have anything truffle in my house, but I do have butter and herbs. So I combined butter, salt, pepper, parsley, thyme, rosemary and some garlic into a plastic baggie (No piping bag- on my list to buy now!) I then separated the skin from the meat and squirted the herb butter in underneath and massaged it in (say it like the brits do! mass a-ged). Then I baked her for uhm...a while? (I didn't time) in a slightly less than 400 degree oven. (guess work again as our oven temp is anyone's game!). I then had to run to the car dealership for a minute so I turned her down to 200 and then put her back in at 400ish for about another 30 minutes. The skin came out a beautiful golden brown and the meat was to DIE for! I seriously could eat that whole bird by myself right now! Perfect!

Yes, I suppose you could. If you want another one, we were just watching the news. There was a school in Tn. that had to let school out early today. Someone had just spread chicken manure from a chicken house all over their field for fertilizer. The stench was so strong kids were getting sick and could now breath the air. It was so bad they had to let everyone leave early. Now how bad is that when you can't even breath the air after manure being spread on a field?

We are surrounded by hay fields here. Last year the guy had chicken manure spread on them. I did not know right away. But I would take my goats for walks through the fields and I started seeing legs and feathers and other chicken parts laying all over. That put an end to our walks out back real quick. I don't think he's done it since, though. It was surprising to see all the body parts. I thought it would just be manure. But I don't think they can clear out all the dead chickens and so the other chickens will eat them. And what's left gets spread, too.

It's really disgusting and smells so bad for days and days. So if the smell is so bad, how do people eat chicken??

I live across the road from several chicken houses. It's horrible to think of those poor things. A few months ago a truck loaded with chickens turned over about a mile up the road. Chickens and feathers all over the place for days. Then just the other day another one turned over.

Before we moved here we lived by some more chicken houses and one day the neighbor found one that had escaped. I took it home and put it in with my chickies. That poor thing was so big at 6 weeks. Mine were over 6 months and not nearly as big as this one. It could barely walk. And could not hop up 6" to get into the house. I had to pick it up and put it in at night. It was finally pecked to death by the other evil hens.

I had 25 meat birds I butchered last year and we're still eating those. I can always use new recipes, though.

I went to your blog and I want to know more about the whole body cleanse. You said the ingrediants but not the measurements. I'd like to try it myself. If you have some time, could you tell me more. You can e-mail me if you want.

Thanks, Kris

Yummy!! I do roast my own chickens and now buy from a local farmer. We used to raise chickens for eggs and a few for eating. I cannot eat a storebought chicken after knowing what happens to them all their short lives. MB
