Dh and I made fudge last night and by this morning it was still soft enough we had to scoop it out with a spoon! We have about $15 in ingredients for this fudge, so I don't want to waste it - anyone have any ideas of what could have gone wrong and what I might do to salvage it? I was thinking maybe I didn't let it boil long enough but i timed it 5 minutes like the recipe said. Should I reboil it?, Freeze it LOL? Help!! It's a new recipe from Taste of HOme that I've never used before.

We boiled it again and got it up to soft ball stage, poured it into a shallow pan and dh took it into a cold, spare bedroom to cool. When we went into check on it, we discovered he had set it down tippy and it had poured into a big, BIG, glob on the nice light grey carpet! And..... it still didn't set. And I thought it couldn't get any worse! LOL

I did that too. Make fudge yesterday and it didn't set!
I don't know what I did wrong. It wasn't raining or snowing, I don't have a period, lol.
I have put it in the freezer, lol. But it is still softish.
HHHMMM maybe I will take a spoon and start eating. I didn't make a big batch PTL, but too big for me to eat all alone, so hop on the plane and help me :)

It is all about the weather and periods! I always have heard this. Never make fudge when the weather is humid and never can tomatoes on your period. This has nothing to do with fudge, but just thought I'd pass that little tidbit along!

Sorry it didn't set up. Try, try again!

Sherri- My mom says that too much humidity in the air can change what it is supposed to do. *hugs*

Sherri, I have made fudge for years and the two recipes that I use say that after it comes to a soft ball to put the pan into a sink with cold water in it(just to the depth of the fudge). Let the temp go down to 110 degrees. Then beat it till it looks shiny and smooth. Then pour into the shallow pan to cool.
I hope this helps.

I just looked it up online and it said to NEVER make fudge while it is raining or snowing but this puzzles me because if you couldn't make fudge while it's raining in Washington in the winter, you would never be able to make fudge, so I'm not sure if that's true or not. I think I"m going to try boiling it again. We don't have anything to lose.........

Well, we have about 10 lbs of it Heather and we can't cut it up into squares, so we'd have to sit down, dh and I, with spoons and eat away. I'm pretty sure it would kill us before we got half way through! LOL
