Does anyone have a really good sugar cookie recipe for Christmas cut-outs? I searched the forum and didn't find one listed. I like to use recipes others have tried and like. Thanks

I don't have it with me, but if you can get a hold of the Joy of Cooking Cookbook, there is a fantastic sugar cookie recipe in there. My Mom has an older copy from the 70's. These sugar cookies are just fabulous, and margarine works as a substitute for butter. -Cat

Ok help me here...........
Part Butter, do you mean you use 1/2 shortening, 1/2 butter. Or is it like the butter crisco???

I'm going to try these

This recipe is from an old Betty Crocker cookbook. My girls specifically ask for these sugar cookies - they are the best when making rolled cookies.

Ethel's Sugar Cookies
Mix thoroughly...
3/4 soft shortening (part butter)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. flavoring (vanilla or lemon - I use vanilla)

Sift together and stir in...
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Chill at least one hour. Roll out 1/8" thick (or whatever your preference). Cut out shapes. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Sprinkle with sugar if desired. Bake until delicately golden around the edges. Temp 400, bake 6-8 minutes.
