Posted - Dec 14 2005 : 8:51:24 PM I don't have it with me, but if you can get a hold of the Joy of Cooking Cookbook, there is a fantastic sugar cookie recipe in there. My Mom has an older copy from the 70's. These sugar cookies are just fabulous, and margarine works as a substitute for butter. -Cat |

Posted - Dec 12 2005 : 09:48:40 AM This recipe is from an old Betty Crocker cookbook. My girls specifically ask for these sugar cookies - they are the best when making rolled cookies.
Ethel's Sugar Cookies Mix thoroughly... 3/4 soft shortening (part butter) 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 1/2 tsp. flavoring (vanilla or lemon - I use vanilla)
Sift together and stir in... 2 1/2 cups sifted flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt
Chill at least one hour. Roll out 1/8" thick (or whatever your preference). Cut out shapes. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Sprinkle with sugar if desired. Bake until delicately golden around the edges. Temp 400, bake 6-8 minutes.
