Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a blondie recipe that uses chocolate chips and walnuts. I asked my sister what she wanted for her birthday, and the only thing she really wants are blondies. I used to have a great recipe, but I've LOST it! If you can, please help! - Cat

Cat - I like the recipe you posted. It's more basic -- blend butter & sugar; add eggs; mix dry separately; gradually add, etc. Thanks for sharing your recipe and your experience with it. Now blonde brownies are on my list when my college son comes home!

Thanks everyone! I found a recipe on the Hersey website, and adapted it for my uses. My sister's birthday was last weekend, so I've already whipped up a batch of blondies for her. Needless to say she was very pleased.

katie-ell: I think that recipe is really close to the one I lost. My problem is that I can't taste the results to determine if I like it or not cuz the ones I always make have nuts, and I'm allergic. Now, I could make them without nuts, or with something else (like the yummy Blueberry Blond Brownies mentioned above), but the request is always with nuts so... This time 'round I ran downstairs and tested them out on the boys who live in the apartment below me. They were a hit so I'm gonna keep the recipe. Here it is if anyone is interested:

3/4 c butter or margarine, softened
3/4 c packed light brown sugar
1/2 c granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 c all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 3/4 c chocolate chips
1 c chopped walnuts

1. Heat oven to 350 F. Grease 13x9x2-inch baking pan.

2. Beat butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar in a large bowl until creamy. Add eggs; beat well. stir together flour, baking soda and salt in separate bowl; gradually add to butter mixture, beating until well blended. Stir in chcolate chips and nuts. Spread into prepared pan.

3. Bake 30-35 minutes or until top is golden brown and centre is set. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars.

About 36 bars.

I actually went half all-purpose flour and half whole wheat. I used butter, not margarine. And I didn't use 1 3/4 c of chips, only about 1 1/2 c. The batter was really hard to spread out into the greased pan, but it spread out and baked fine, although I was using a glass dish, and the edges baked a bit on the hard side.

Chocolate Chip Halfway Bars
(Blonde brownies with a brown sugar crusty topping)

Sift together in a small bowl and set aside:
2 cups flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder

Cream together:
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)

Add to creamy mixture:
2 eggs yolks (Keep the whites)
3 tsp water
1 tsp vanilla

Other ingredients needed:
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup nuts, chopped
1 cup brown sugar (packed)

General directions:
Preheat oven to 375; grease large brownie pan.
Sift flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder in a smaller bowl.
Mix shortening and sugar in large bowl until light and fluffy.
Add egg yolks, water and vanilla.
Mix in flour mixture gradually.
Spread into baking pan.
Top with Chocolate chips and nuts.

Beat egg whites until stiff, gradually adding brown sugar.
Spread over chocolate chip brownie batter.
Bake 25 minutes until brown sugar is crispy looking on top
Cut in bars while warm. Let cool in pan.

One of our family favorites and so yummy!

Hey Cat! Here's a recipe for you:

CHOCOLATE CHIP BLONDE BROWNIES

Recipe by: Southern Sideboards by the Junior League of Jackson, MS

Makes 24

1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup nuts -- chopped
1/3 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar -- packed
1 egg -- slightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips

Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Add nuts; mix well and set aside.

Melt butter in saucepan and remove from heat. Add brown sugar and beat well. Let cool. Add egg and vanilla and blend.

Add flour mixture, a small amount at a time, mixing well after each addition. Spread in a greased 8 x 8 inch pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips over top.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Do not overbake. Cool in pan and cut into squares. If doubling recipe, bake in 9 x 12 inch pan.

I haven't tried this recipe myself, but printed it out a while back and stuck it in my recipe folder. I'd incorporate the chocolate chips into the batter rather than topping with.

I love blonde brownies and may have to make these today -- very coooold in Chicago today, isn't it!!

MaryJane sells Organic Blueberry Blond Brownies, there're amazing!! I believe it means that there are white chocolate chips in them. You can see a picture of them in the magazine. Hope this helps...a little.


Tomorrow is always fresh with no mistakes in it.....unless they are spelling mistakes.

I've never heard of blondies. Could you give me a description? Maybe they go by something else here.
