Posted - Nov 06 2008 : 07:25:58 AM I don't use my crock pot to much, but dragged it out today. I cut up a pork loin roast, chicken broth, carrots, apples, and a little brown sugar. There it goes. I will let you know how it turns out. I can always feed it to the neighborhood dogs if it doesn't work out. I thought the apples would sweeten the pork, not to mention smell good while cooking.

I love pork! One of our favorite recipes in the crock pot is a pork loin cook until you can shred it. Toss in a can of hominy and a jar of Recaito (It's a cilantro based cooking sauce from Goya). We serve like a stew with tortillas on the side. Oh, don't forget fresh cilantro too. My children love this dish!
Hmmm.... I may have to make it today. It's kinda cold out - perfect!

I have been making apple butter in my crock pot for two weeks. Its so easy; cut up apples add cider sugar and spices and I blend it at the end. We have had a bumper crop of apples here in Vermont this year; around every corner is a beautiful apple tree full of apples! |

Posted - Nov 07 2008 : 3:16:56 PM Dawn, I don't really use crockpot recipes. I just started making what I would normally make on the stove or in the oven in the crockpot - like beef stew and pot roast or pulled pork, carnitas or Italian chicken. Almost any fall or winter type dish can be converted to a crockpot version. |

Posted - Nov 06 2008 : 09:28:01 AM We'd starve without our crockpot, especially during volleyball season. I love the way the house smells when we come home from a game. DD is soooo hungry after a game I hardly have time to make a salad and bread to go with what ever is cooking. The William Sonoma catelog had some really great sounding recipes this time. I think I'll try the pork roast or the beef and ale pie over the weekend. |

Posted - Nov 06 2008 : 07:30:51 AM Nancy I use my crock pot ALL the time! But I have never cooked a pork loin in it before. It should be divine! Of course being from the South, I would put on a pot of greens with bacon and onions to cook all day along with it. Man am I hungry! I was planning on a hearty vegetable soup with fresh bread for dinner. May need to find a pork roast instead!!
