The other night I decided to make some more cookies using the MJ Budget mix. They have always been SOOO good and we had already eaten the other batches. I got everything mixed up to the point of adding egg and realized we were out! But Oh! There was some Egg beaters so I was going to just use those. I failed to read that the label said "SouthWestern" egg beaters. The cookies came out looking perfect, but when I bit into them. UGH ICK! The whole batch got thrown away. I couldn't figure it out. Until this morning I decided to use that last of the egg beaters for breakfast. Now I know why!

Luckily I have purchased some eggs so I am going to redeem myself in the cookie department this morning.

Actually I think cinnamon is good in spicy foods. It's actually VERY mexican. Cinnamon goes in more savory foods in mexican food then you would think. Even enchiladas! So sounds good to me. lol However, I do like sweet corn bread!

Karin- that reminds me of a funny story. We liked to host dinner parties when we lived in Moscow and we had a certain friend who always liked to have coffee after dinner. I told him which canister had the sugar in it, but it never failed. He ALWAYS picked the wrong one and put salt in his coffee!!

Oh, Alee- yuck. I've made mistakes like that many times. I remember sprinkling sugar on top of cookies before I put them in the oven, only to discover I had actually sprinkled salt on them! Blecch. Glad that you got to eat a good batch!

I remember one time about 8 years ago, taking supper to a family with a new baby. I took a big pot of chili (accidentally used cinnamon instead of chili powder) and a salad and corn bread..which I forgot to put the honey and the salt in. I had made a double batch of it all so we ate the same awful dinner that night. The next day at church the wife fell over herself praising my chili and cornbread and asking for the recipes. Didn't have the heart to tell her that ours went to the chickens and we had supper from taco bell. It was really really bad!!!
Made me wonder what they USUALLY ate!!!

Just as a heads up Madelynne, eggs (real ones) aren't as bad on cholesterol as was previously thought. In fact, the yolk with the white some how makes very little if any cholesterol problems with most people. Some how together they work, and counter act any bad effects.

Alee I had real eggs. Next time call me first.

I do sometimes use eggs beaters as my husband needs to watch his cholesterol levels but I spoil him with real eggs most of the time. This was to funny, thanks for sharing.

The worst food I can remember cooking got messed up because I didn't know that altitude makes a difference in cooking. We were visiting friends in Colorado. They were having company over that evening, and the meal they had planned for themselves was chicken. Because we don't eat meat, I said "Oh, it will be fine. I'll just throw some rice on to cook." Well, time went by and time went by, but the rice didn't seem to be done. Our friends had to get dinner over with because the company was arriving any minute and they wanted the table cleared. So finally when the rice had cooked twice as long as I thought it ought to, we had to go ahead and eat it even though it was still hard and crunchy. I guess if our friend's wife had not been so preoccupied, she would have realized the mistake I was making and told me that the rice wouldn't cook in time. I didn't figure out until days later what the problem must have been. We just crunched away and didn't say anything. I felt really bad for my poor husband, and I couldn't figure out for the life of me what was wrong.

YUCK! I do like the Southwestern Egg Beaters, makes a good scramble but a cookie? No way! My big oops was misreading the salt 1 teaspoon for 1 tablespoon when I made a 4 egg omelet. DH still brings up the "Salt Omelet" once in awhile and that happened a good 30 years ago!

Oh I have made some major kitchen mess-ups, mostly when I was 20 and was cooking at a church camp, long before I really started cooking on my own. There is one dinner I still look back on with horror, overcooked ham, oversteamed peas, crunchy gray potatoes (didn't realize that a recipe that called for frozen potatoes meant that it needed potatoes that were cooked already). Fortunately the chocolate cake that I made from a mix came out okay, and I got lots of compliments on the cake from the lovely senior citizen campers who were there that week - they really wanted to be able to say I did a good job on something

That is soo funny!

When I first got married my husband went fishing and brought home his catch. I battered them up and fried them and they were aweful!!! I swore they must be diseased fish from polluted water.

The next night I made the most beautiful fried chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy - and they were aweful!

I realized that I has switched the flour and the powdered sugar canisters on the counter!
