I don't do much baking, just do not have the time. But, to celebrate a turn of the calendar page, I am going to start making a Cake of the Month. I am going to make 2 smaller cakes so we can have it throughout the month. Anyone else want to join?

Here is what I am making for October. It looks yummy and delicious. ENJOY!!!

Making orange anything always reminds me of my high school days because our colors were black and orange. I think my mom had orange frosting tint perfected!!! : )

i tried the chocolate pumpkin cake from the website last year:

http://www.countryliving.com/recipefinder/chocolate-pumpkin-cake-cupcakes-3922

actually it came in a special mini recipe book they send with the magazine last year... well, the cake tasted awesome, but it sure was ugly. the orange frosting was a challenge and the cake kept falling apart. but looks aren't as important as taste, right?

so, heather, if your cake comes out looking and tasting good, you should take a picture of it to show us! this idea sounds fun.... i'll try it but hopefully i'll have some time. my first will be september's pumpkin pie... came out delicious!

The jar cake recipes I have all call for the cakes to baked in the oven and then right out of the oven to place hot seals on top and watch for the "pop" of the seal taking place, then screw on the rings. I'll keep my eye out for the method you grew up with. It would be easier to just pop the whole thing in the oven, top and all!

If you gals find a GREAT spice cake in a jar (you actually tried it) let me know. We used to make one when I was growing up that I loved! And it would last for 6 months canned.

It was a recipe where you baked it with the lids on the jar and they would pop (seal) as you baked the cakes. I love them! And would love to find that recipe again. It got lost in a move!

I am making 2 smaller versions. Believe me, even with a 2 year old and my L O V E of chocolate, I couldn't eat the whole thing!! HA!!!

That is really cute, but big! Too big for just the 2 of us. It might be a good one for Thanksgiving if I could get everybody's eyes off the pies!

Heather I love to bake and cook from scratch! I'll join you in this monthly adventure! What I'll try to do is to bake a new recipe for a cake each month. I generally bake at least one cake a month but they tend to be the usual family faves. How about we post the recipes we use so we can add to our own files? I was thinking of baking cakes in jelly jars this fall and experimenting with spice cake recipes and frostings! Yea! Now I'm hungry again! And I ate the last fudge yesterday!
