Hi
Does anyone use an electric grainmill? I have been trying to research and it seems like Nutrimill would be the best choice, but thought I'd see if anyone owns one to give some feedback. I would like to mill my own wheat flour, so any tips on grain choices would be great too.
Looking forward to hearing from you on this topic.
Heidi

I actually have a country living mill- it is manual, but can have a motor hooked up to it. I do have the motor hooked up to mine for convience, but if we lose electricity I can unhook the motor and grind flour.

I love my mill!!!!!! There really isn't anything bad to say about it. As I write this I have 2 loves of bread sitting in front of the wood stove for their last rise. There is nothing better than home cooked bread!

There was a thread about this very subject quite a few months ago- you may want to check the archives.

As far as grains there are so many options-(I am fairly new to milling myself)I use a Hard Red Spring Wheat for my whole wheat flour and a Soft White Wheat for my pastry flour. Kamut is a grain that I like to combine with others. Oh I coud go on forever.

I purchase my grains through Bob's Red Mill in Milwauke, Oregon because it is only about 40 miles from me and I can pick it up myself.

Hey, Heidi, that's my sister's name, too!

This is one of my favorite things to do and I've been making bread for 9 years now. There are several people here that got started with the Bread Beckers in Woodstock, Ga. My grain mill is the Grainmaster Whisper Mill. I also have the DLX mixer that does all the work for me. I just shape the dough into rolls or bread. It's great. I think there are lots newer and better models now. And quieter ones, too. Mine sounds like an airplane.

There are so many people in the Chatt. and N. Ga. area that get together and order a big truckload of gran from Montana about once a year. We use Hard Red and White wheat to make bread Sometimes add oats or kamut (which is really expensive) or if you have wheat allergies you can use spelt. There is soft white wheat to make cakes and pastries and cookies.

Bread Beckers is a good source for info. Very helpful people.

I've seen ads in Mother Earth for grain mills, too.

That's about it If you need a good bread recipe, let me know.
