I have never bought herbs at the supermarket. Our little store doesn't sell herbs except parsley and cilentro. The other day I say some little plastic pkgs in the produce. They had some kinda brown basil, chives, and dill. They were all wilted. First I saw that there was about 12 basil leaves in the pkg. Then I saw that they were what I thought was 2@.49. I thought OK, if they were fresh and nice that might be OK at 2 pkg for 49 cents. Then, I saw that they were $2.49 a pkg. No wonder no one around here knows what and how to use herbs. I don't cook a meal without using either fresh herbs or herbs that I have dried. Maybe I should start selling herbs and charging for lessons.

Belle - I think you just got yourself a farmgirl business!!
Fresh herbs make such a difference but who can afford to buy them at supermarket prices?

Whole Foods charges $4.99 for their packaged herbs! Needless to say, I grow and dry my own.

I know those herbs at the store are so expensive!!! I always get annoyed when I have to but them for some reason! I especailly hate buying the little "pretty" packaged ones...the big bunches that are not packaged, like cilantro, are not quite as outrageous!
We had a heat spell while I was on vacation two weeks ago and someone(roommate) didn't water my precious herbs enough! huh! Anyway, I just replanted most of them...the thyme and rosemary survived!
