I am wanting to make homemade beef jerky for Christmas this year to give to my dad and brothers. I have never done this before and was hoping some of you farmgirls might have a great recipe to share?

Round or flank steak are good. But any cut of lean meat will work. When my boys butcher a deer, you really can't recognize the cuts. They cut out the loin and the rest is cut in chunks. We either grind it or slice to make jerkey.

What cuts of meat do you make your jerky out of. I have always wanted to make it but really don't know where to begin. Thanks

My marinade recipe is about the same as Jenny's with the addition of fruit juice. What ever you have on hand. I have used pineapple, black berry and grape. Just one, not all at once.

I use a dehydrator..all night with the vents open all the way..until dry and still a little bendy. (mine dosn't have a temp control..just vents to open top and bottom) You can do it alot of ways though.

I bake mine in the oven on clean racks overnight with the oven open alittle with a potholder folder in half. On 200. jerky hand cut 1/4 inch thick.

Jenny,
What temperature and how long? Do you bake it or dehydrate it? I have never made any before so this is all new. Thanks for your help.

I marinade mine in soy sauce, brown sugar and a little liquid smoke..sometimes adding garlic or onion powder..
I love making jerky and do it often....if you are using game meat be sure to get every tiny bit of fat off. (well, on any meat but especially game meat)
